one last night

You had taken your last final. It was over. All of it. As much as you wanted to feel happy, you couldn't. Connie was gone. It was your fault, it was. And the pain? The pain was absolutely unbearable.

Word spread fast amongst the friend group, but you couldn't face any of them. So you stepped back. You reverted to the quiet girl you were at the beginning of the semester. It was better this way. It had to be.

Sasha stepped into the room, the two of you sharing a quick gaze before she went to grab her keys. You told her you'd talk to her when you were ready, but talking about Connie, about everything that happened was too hard. It was like your throat closed up, keeping you from speaking, almost as if it were a sign to never talk again.

She grabbed her keys, and as she reached for the door handle, she stopped. You watched her hesitate before turning around to face you from across the room.

"So...there's an end of the year party at Eren's. Do you...do you want to come?" Sasha seemed nervous as she played with her keys, brushing some loose hair behind her ear.

This was the most you two had talked, and while every bone in your body was screaming no, for some reason you responded yes. You were just as surprised as she was.

"R-Really?"

You shrugged.

"Okay...well, let's get you ready," Sasha smiled warmly and set her these things down, rummaging through her closet and rambling about a mile a minute.

She started to coax you into talking, and sooner than later, she asked about Connie while applying your makeup.

"Are you doing okay?" She asked, the blush brush gliding across your cheeks. You didn't know how to answer that question, and you really didn't want to. But you had to say something.

"I'm...doing alright," you murmured, Sasha stepping back to look at you. She studied your face before stepping back in, placing some blush on your nose.

"Well, I'm still here if you ever need to talk to me about it. Even when you go home," she offered, her eyes light.

You gave her a nod, your brain wandering to Connie. You wondered how he was doing. Was he worse? Was he better? You knew you would see him tonight and the nerves started to get the best of you. Maybe you shouldn't go to the party.

"Put this on," Sasha shoved some clothes in your hands and gave you a wicked grin.

Here we go again you thought as your lips curved into a smile, a sense of happiness washing over you for just a bit.

Once you arrived, you stood at the door. You felt Niccolo glance at you before opening it. You were unsure to take a step, but Sasha took your hand. You looked over at her and she nodded her head. You walked in.

Everyone was here, including Reiner, Bertholdt, Annie, Ymir, and Historia. Some other people that you didn't recognize were also mingling about, most likely other friends of theirs. You looked around seeing no sign of Connie, yet. If he wasn't up here, he was downstairs. So upstairs you would stay.

"I'm gonna go get a drink," you told Sasha, heading off to the kitchen and grabbing a red cup when you got there.

You poured more than a shot of fireball in it and added apple juice, taking a long drink from it. If you were going to be here, you needed to loosen up. If you saw Connie...you weren't sure what was going to happen.
