"Now, you guys get a treat! We have the top floor penthouse instead of the lowest floor like District 1." Effie scoffs, her resentment for District 1 becoming obvious. Effie wanted to be the escort for a richer district. District 12 probably didn't help her reputation back at the capitol. The only thing that could help her now is if we won.
We follow Effie into the penthouse and start our tour. "Here's the living room, kitchen, dining room, bathrooms. Lovely, isn't it? An avox will show you two to your rooms."
I follow a lady down a hallway. She leads me to a door and slides it open for me. I nod at her to thank her and she leaves. I enter the room and find a nice big bed with silk sheets. On the bedside table, I find a remote. I start flipping through the channels on it and find that each channel projects a live stream to my wall. There's one of a stream rushing, another of a desert, and one of the busy traffic in the capitol. I switch the channel once more. It's an oddly familiar-looking forest with a deer in it. The deer walks away and I realize where I know this from. It's the forest in District 12. Katniss, Gale, and I hunt there illegally.
I keep watching the forest. It brings me a sense of longing and déjà vu but also comfort. I decide it's too weird and switch off the projector. I walk into my private bathroom and start the shower. I remove my clothes and makeup then take down my hair. I step into the warm steamy shower and feel immediately more relaxed. I take the body soap and clean myself down, wash my hair and then use a sugar scrub to make my skin smooth. I take my time before getting out, so I can soak in every ounce of steam and warmth.
I get out of the shower and throw on a silk robe. I brush through my hair and stare at myself in the mirror. I throw my hair into a loose braid and leave the bathroom. I go and lay down in my bed then fall asleep.

The next afternoon, I go with Peeta and Haymitch to the training room. All of the other tributes are there. Haymitch nods at us then leaves. I look to Peeta and we walk in. I see the blonde boy from District 2 again. He's handsome but intimidating. I wouldn't want to be left alone with him in the games. I wouldn't be able to win.
"There are 24 of you in this room," The mentor starts talking. "Only one will make it. In here you are to train. You will reach the fullest capacity that you can get to before you go into the games. We have bows and arrows, knives, weights, disguises, fires, knot tying, berry identification, and lots more for you to train within here. Go get started."
I head over to the knives area. I pick a nice one and try throwing it at the human target. I missed. I hit the collarbone while I aimed for the heart. I look around subtly to see if anyone noticed. The District 2 boy did. He approaches me. I look away and grab another knife so he doesn't think I'm staring. As I grab a dagger, I feel an arm reach past me and grab one as well. I turn around and find him next to me. I clear my throat and move away. I hear him laugh slightly under his breath. I throw the dagger again. I made it. It hit right into the heart of the dummy. He throws his dagger, it also hits the heart. I walk forwards and collect my knife as he does the same. He starts talking, "Hey."
I glance at him to see him already staring at me, "Hi."
"What's your name?" His voice sounds hard but not scary.
I stop pulling on my knife for a second and turn to face him. "Y/N Matthews. What's yours?"
"Cato Hadley. I'm District 2."
"I'm from District 12." I turn back to my knife and start pulling on it again. It's stuck.
"Need help?"
I stop pulling and look down. "Please."
He walks over and I back away to give him room. He grabs the knife and gets it out easily. "Thanks," I smile at him lightly.
He smirks and nods at me before walking away. I look around and find Peeta. He's at the painting station, painting wooden bark on his arm. "Hey, Peeta."
He ignores my greeting, "Were you just talking to a career?"
"Yes, I was. Nice painting."
"Thanks. What were you guys talking about?"
"We just introduced ourselves. He helped me get my knife out of the target." I answer Peeta's questions while watching him paint on his arm.
"Oh." He doesn't seem very talkative right now.
"I didn't know you could paint."
"At the bakery, I got some practice. It was always my favorite part when making cakes." He smiles. "Can I do a painting on you?"
"Sure." He starts painting on my arm and soon enough there's a detailed painting of bark on me as well. "Wow, Peeta. You're really good."
"Thank you." He looks behind me, "I think I'm going to throw daggers now."
I watch him as he misses the target repeatedly. The careers are watching him and smiling at him. Not in a friendly way. I sigh and walk away and start learning to tie knots.
