September 30th. A very ordinary day for Skid and Pump. You know, the two kids in the costumes year-round.

The costume of the 8-year-old Skid resembled a skeleton with a skeleton-like mask and onesie, while the one of 7-year-old Pump had a pumpkin mask and a heavily simplified suit.

They were, as usual, very excited for the spookiest party of them all tomorrow. The 1st day of Spooky Month was when the biggest, spookiest party would be thrown exclusively by them, due to how much they ran around spreading the cheer. Fun games to play, delicious treats to eat, and crazy tricks and surprises to find.

But little did Skid and Pump know...

That the start to this party in particular...

Would not be spooky.

It would be SCARY.

It all started when Skid woke up to a loud thump at 2:45 AM that evening. It seemed to have come from downstairs.

He went into his mother's room to investigate and ask for help... but she wasn't in there.

"M-mom...?" Skid asked quietly, looking around for her. "Where are you?"

As Skid left the room, he heard someone screaming, and a sound that resembled stabbing.

It was his mom.

"MOM, D-DON'T WORRY, I'M COMING!" Skid called, rushing to where the noise was coming from. The basement? The living room?

The kitchen.

Skid rushed downstairs to try and save his mom, but when he arrived...

There laid a horrifying sight upon his eyes.

His mother's body, in which a pool of blood laid underneath her.

All the knives from the knife holder were forced into her heart and brain, piercing the flesh and bone.

"OH MY GOD, MOM!!!"

Skid's eyes welled up with traumatized tears as he ran up to his mother, who gave no response, no matter how hard he shook her.

"MOM!!! WAKE UP PLEASE!!! I-IT CAN'T END LIKE THIS!!! M-MOMMY!!! NO!!!"

No responses at all.

"N-no... mom... no... NO..."

Her heart was sliced out of its body.

Her brain was rotted.

Skid's attempt to bring his mother back had failed.

She was gone.

Forever.

There was no reversing it.

There was nothing anyone could do to fix such a tragedy.

"NO!!! NO NO NO NO!!!" Skid sobbed loudly and angrily. "SPOOKY MONTH IS RUINED!!! IT'S MY FAULT!!! I SHOULD HAVE SAVED HER WHEN I HAD THE CHANCE!!!"

He kneeled down and kissed his mother's forehead one last time, his tears falling on her face.

"I love you mom..." he wept. "Th-thank you for everything..."

As Skid mourned the loss of his mom, he got a text message from his friend Pump.

"Hey Skid, wanna go to the candy store?" the message read.

Skid texted back, "No thanks..."

On the other end, Pump showed concern.

"How come?" he texted.

It ached Skid's heart to tell Pump about the loss he suffered. But he had to. He had no other choice.

"My mom passed away."

Pump also burst into tears when he found out Skid's mom died. "I'm so sorry, Skid..." he texted his friend.

But just then, Pump heard a scream as well, coming from his sister's bedroom.

"SUSIE?!?!" he panicked as he rushed inside.

He tried to open the door, but it was locked. Susie's muffled grunting was heard. She was fighting something holding her mouth closed.

Pump found his grandfather's keys and unlocked the bedroom door to a shocking sight.

His sister was being asphyxiated by what looked like his grandfather, but with several gruesome burn marks all over his body.

Susie noticed Pump and reached her left hand out to him. Pump grabbed it, but it didn't last very long, as their grandpa sliced that exact hand of Susie's off with a butcher's knife, causing her to scream in pain. She was losing the fight, blood, and her life very quickly.

"SUSIE, HOLD ON, I'LL SAVE YOU!!!" Pump shouted, tears in his eyes. He grabbed the table lamp and threw it at his grandpa, the stand falling off, temporarily rendering him blind and making him let go of Susie. She fell to the floor crying.

Pump picked up the table lamp again, but he suddenly tried to restrain himself from hurting his only parental figure.

Susie quickly called to Pump, and told him that he had no choice but to finish him off. He was practically a zombie, and there wasn't a cure.

Pump at first refused, but after seeing his grandpa prepare to murder Susie with the butcher's knife, he tearfully said, "I'm sorry grandpa... please forgive me..." and struck his grandpa's head hard with the shadeless stand. The cracked edges dug into his head, and he finally fell down, his rotted heart beating no more.

Pump eventually called an ambulance on a dying Susie, and they arrived just in time, along with Skid. As Susie was about to be taken away to the hospital, she begged her brother and his friend to escape the town.

"Wh-why?!" Pump gasped. "I don't wanna leave you behind! I wanna stay with you!"

"Please... it's for your own safety..." Susie sputtered, a desperate tone in her frail voice. "J-just... remember... I love both of you... even though I... I only... even if only one... of you... is related to me... both of you... are family to me..."

Skid cried just as hard as Pump did when they both heard that. They embraced Susie close, and when it was time for her to go, they waved goodbye and watched as the ambulance drove away.

"Skid..." Pump finally said after a bit.

"Yeah?" Skid responded.

There was a short pause.

"I think Susie is right. We need to leave... now."
