beomgyu left the school building, immediately
seeing taehyung's car which was parked in the school lot. he walked towards it, getting into the passenger seat.

taehyung looked over at his brother. "why on earth did you get detention?" he asked, his voice holding anger.

beomgyu sighed, knowing exactly why he was angry. "i had to talk to taehyun to thank him, remember?"

"so you chose to get detention? that was a terrible idea, especially since it was today," taehyung raised his voice at his brother.

"i know, you don't have to lecture me about it," beomgyu's eyes narrowed at the elder.

"beomgyu! i'm fucking worried for you! our parents came home today. they know you received detention!" taehyung yelled, grabbing beomgyu's hand, "you remember what happened last time something like this happened... don't you?" taehyung's voice broke and wavered as he looked at his younger sibling.

"i-i do..." beomgyu's voice cracked, "it won't be bad this time, though...

"and what makes you say that?" taehyung asked beomgyu, his voice hard.

"i-i just know... have some hope." he smiled slightly at his brother.

"beomgyu, i wish i had just thanked taehyun. i didn't know you would do this just to say thanks. i saw him in the hallway, i could've-"

"it's fine, it was my choice," beomgyu cut him off, smile not reaching his eyes.

"beom, you should've told me that he had gotten detention. hell, i could have gotten detention to talk to him. you know mom and dad wouldn't have been as harsh on me," taehyung muttered.

"let's just go home..." beomgyu mumbled.

"if something too serious happens, i'm fucking calling the cops. for real this time." taehyung hissed, his hands gripping the steering wheel so hard that his knuckles were turning white.

"don't. we need a place to stay," beomgyu told him.

taehyung sighed, nodding reluctantly before finally driving home.

during the drive home, beomgyu kept his eyes directed towards the window of the car.

only so taehyung wouldn't see the fear that lingered.

only so beomgyu wouldn't see taehyung's obvious worry.

only so taehyung wouldn't see beomgyu's tears falling from his eyes.

beomgyu's vision was blurred as he cried silently. he was scared. scared of his parents.

their parents were typically traveling for business, only coming home for a few days each month. beomgyu hated when they would come home. beomgyu hated how they would compare him to taehyung.

beomgyu only wanted to erase his memories from the last time he disappointed his parents. he would kill to be able to forget.

taehyung parked in the driveway of their modern house. he turned off the car before leaning over to give beomgyu a hug. "i love you," taehyung said into the hug.

"i love you too," beomgyu smiled.

taehyung then pulled away from the hug, stepping out of the car. beomgyu left the car, seeing his parents' vehicle parked in the driveway.

he looked down at the ground, before forcing himself to go inside the house. he dragged his feet, walking into the house.

he found his parents sitting on the living room sofa. they were typing on their laptops.

beomgyu's father looked up at the boy as he entered.

"i thought i told you to cut your hair," the man said coldly, "you look too much like a girl. i wonder what people think of you."

beomgyu didn't reply. he only nodded.

"go to your room." his father stated. beomgyu nodded again, quickly walking to his room.

beomgyu was beyond surprised that they didn't say anything about his detention. he was thankful that they didn't do anything bad about it.

"thank god," beomgyu sighed when he closed the door to his room, "i thought they'd do something worse."

he spoke too soon.

when beomgyu arrived downstairs to eat dinner, he was met by the cold eyes of his parents who were sitting at the kitchen table. he sat down in his seat, looking at the food on his plate.

he started eating once taehyung arrived to the table. the family ate in silence.

"taehyung, how are your studies?" mr. choi asked the eldest son.

"wonderful. i was accepted to one of the best universities in south korea just a few weeks ago," taehyung smiled fakely.

"good, good." mr. choi paused, his gaze shifting to the other teenage boy. "and beomgyu, how are your studies?"

"great." beomgyu replied.

"really? then why did you get detention today?"

beomgyu swallowed dryly, looking down. "i... i'm not sure."

"you're not sure?" mr. choi sighed, "i guess that means i have to give you a punishment for not learning your lesson from detention."

beomgyu's eyes widened. "w-wait, that's not what i meant-"

"i've heard enough." mr. choi stood, walking towards beomgyu. "stand up, boy."

beomgyu's hands shook. fear ran through the boy as he stood. his father gripped his arm, dragging his son into the living room.

"d-dad-" beomgyu tried to protest.

"shut up," his father interrupted him, anger in his eyes.

"father, please-" taehyung had followed them into the living room.

"not now, taehyung." mr. choi snarled at the elder boy. taehyung stayed silent, looking down at the floor.

mr. choi raised his hand, using it to deliver a hard slap to his son. "i told you to never disappoint me," beomgyu's father told him.

beomgyu's eyes closed. his cheek was stinging.

mr. choi raised his hand again, this time delivering a punch to beomgyu's face.

beomgyu stumbled backwards, clutching his eye which had been hit. fortunately, it was closed.

mr. choi continued to deliver hits to beomgyu's face and body. soon, beomgyu couldn't take it anymore.

beomgyu rushed out of the house, sprinting out the front door and into the dark night.

"choi beomgyu!" his father yelled, "don't make me come after you!"

beomgyu had no idea of where he was going. he ran away as fast as he could. he needed to escape.

his mind was a mess. tears were streaming from his eyes as he blindly ran.

beomgyu continued sprinting down the road, ending up in a completely different neighborhood. his body ached and he was exhausted.

he was unable to run anymore, collapsing onto the sidewalk.

"please, someone help me..." were beomgyu's last words before his eyes closed.
