beomgyu had came to accept the fact that taehyun's mother would one of the executives for his part-time job. he had decided to ignore it and pretend that he didn't recognize who she was. it was quite a shock, and he was frozen for a few seconds, but he quickly put on a facade to mask his surprise.
a few days after the job interview had been completed, he had received news that he had passed. jeongin had also gotten the job, and the duo was happy.
in the present, beomgyu was sitting at his desk, his laptop cursor hovering over the green 'confirm' button for the ice skating lessons. they would be at the rink that taehyun worked at, and beomgyu had mixed feelings about it. he was afraid that he would fall or mess up, but he was also clinging onto the string of hope that taehyun would want to be friends with him if he started skating regularly.
beomgyu held his phone to his ear. "you sure we're signing up for the same thing, right?" he double checked.
"yes. if you followed all of the instructions i told you, we should be applying for the same lessons," jeongin's voice sounded on the other end of the line. "now stop hesitating, go for it!"
beomgyu sighed, then clicked the 'confirm' button. "did it."
"great!" he heard jeongin clapping, "our first lesson is tomorrow. i can't wait!"
"haha... yeah..." beomgyu trailed off, wondering if this was a good idea.
"cya at school. be sure to ask your brother to drive us."
"okay, bye innie!"
beomgyu cut the call, his eyes traveling back to his laptop. "i really hope taehyun will speak to me after this. i just spent all of my working money," beomgyu murmered to himself, closing his laptop.
----------------------------------------------------
beomgyu and jeongin headed out the exit of school, walking beside each other.
"i'm so excited!" jeongin cheered. jeongin had an unusual pep in his step. at school, he usually seemed tired with slouched shoulders, but today he was brighter and happier. beomgyu was happy for him.
jeongin skipped ahead of beomgyu, and the younger boy began to laugh.
"what?" jeongin questioned, stopping and turning to face the other.
"you're heading in the opposite direction," beomgyu snickered, pointing with his hand, "taehyung parked the car this way."
"oh," jeongin scratched the back of his neck in embarrassment, then walked back towards beomgyu.
the two boys headed to the parked car, both sitting in the back while taehyung was in the front by himself.
"why are you both sitting back there? i'm not your chauffeur," taehyung rolled his eyes, glancing at the vacant seat beside him.
the two friends laughed as the oldest boy began to drive, grumbling about how lonely he was.
----------------------------------------------------
they reached the ice arena in a span of a few short minutes. taehyung parked, and the three exited the car.
"you two will have to rent skates, until you buy your own," taehyung informed the two, "male figure skates are typically dark-colored, while female skates are white."
the two nodded, listening. as taehyung finished explaining, they had reached the rental counter. both of the boys got their skates, and went to the benches to put them on.
"also, jeongin," taehyung added, glancing at him.
"yes, taehyung shi?" jeongin asked, his eyes trailing over to the eldest boy.
"you can call me hyung," taehyung giggled, then looked into the ice rink, "thanks for giving beomgyu a different type of hobby."
"oh, no problem... hyung!" jeongin smiled, his eyes forming crescents.
"beomgyu is the most unathletic person i know of. he's also very clumsy, so he will probably suck at figure skating since it requires a lot of balance," taehyung laughed.
"hey, i'm sitting right here!" beomgyu's eyes narrowed, and he crossed his arms over his chest.
jeongin let out a chortle, "i could tell from the last time we went skating."
after the two boys had finished putting on their skates, a small group had formed on the ice, mostly girls. there was only two other boys.
"see you guys later," taehyung smiled, standing and patting the two on their heads, "good luck!"
"thanks, hyungie! bye." beomgyu stood, hobbling over to the entrance of the rink.
beomgyu then felt the nerves course through him. he let jeongin go onto the ice first, then he followed, skating hesitantly over to the group of people. two middle aged women stood in front of the group. one was holding a notepad.
one of the ladies who had long straight black hair looked up as the two boys skated over towards them. "ah, you two must be yang jeongin and choi beomgyu?"
"yep!" jeongin responded stopping once he reached the group.
beomgyu skated up behind his friend, surprising himself when he was able to stop successfully.
hearing this, the lady with the wavy black long hair checked off their names on the notepad, then looked up.
"hello, everyone!" the lady with the straight hair chimed, her eyes scanning the crowd. "my name is kang seulgi, but you have permission to just call me seulgi."
"this here is my partner in crime, bae joo-hyun, but she goes by irene," seulgi pointed to the woman standing beside her.
"i'm excited to have you all here today. we also have an assistant teacher/helper who is around your age. sunghoon, come up and introduce yourself please."
one of the two other boys skated up towards the teachers. he had short black hair, and beomgyu quickly noticed his stunning visuals.
"hello, i'm park sunghoon. i am in tenth grade, and i participate in figure skating competitions with this arena," the boy spoke, smiling slightly.
after introductions, the class began. it would be held every weekday, an hour each day after school. beomgyu found himself enjoying it. although he struggled at times, he was quickly catching up to the rest of the class.
jeongin was a natural at figure skating. he was one of the better people in the class.
jeongin and beomgyu made a new friend that day in class. it was the other boy who was attending. his name was lee heeseung, and they discovered that he went to the same school as them, and he was in the same grade.
"my mom wanted me to have something to do with my life," heeseung looked away, a small smile painting his face, "so i chose ice skating."
the class closed with a success. beomgyu's ankles felt sore, but it was worth it. beomgyu had vastly improved in just an hour of practice.
heeseung had exchanged phone numbers with the two boys, and they made a small skating group chat.
beomgyu felt excited for the upcoming lessons, and he desired to continue improving.
