6. Partners

Rileys POV:

"today I am going to pair you up and give you just under a week to prepare a duet! You will show them to me on friday and the bets pair will represent us in a small duet competition! Sound good?" Miss Kate announces after what felt like years of waiting impatiently.

There was a chorus of 'yes's and I can't help but smile. I love partner work, and no doubt Ill be paired with on of my friends, and if we win we get to compete! This is going to be exciting!

I wait for her to go through the list of names and wait eargly for her to pair me up. It felt like the list was never ending and my name sat at the very bottom.

Ugh I just wanted to know who I was working with!

"ok and Riley your going to be paired up with James over there..." Kate says blankly, moving quickly onto the next pair.

I'm with who...?

Im taken aback. My eyes scanning the room for this James guy. I thought I knew everyone on this team but, I guess not.

My search comes to an end and I just shrug walking over to my cubbie, I've only been here for around half an hour and am already parched.

Rummaging through my bag I soon realise I forgot my bottle.

Nice one Riley... Nice one...

I sit down on the bench still searching, hoping that I may have something when I notice a tall brunette boy walk slowly over to me.

"hey" is all he says sitting on the same bench beside my bag. I look at him puzzled. Who in the-

But then I realise, it was the boy from school. The one who helped me get away from Alfie and who picked me up after my fight with Michelle. The boy who for some reason has been around when I'm in need but I've never noticed before.

"hey" I smile once I've reassured myself that it was him. He just stays quite so I pipe up.

"are you the one I'm partnered up with by any chance?" I say raising an eyebrow.

"I think I am" he smiles down at me before looking at where my hands are in my bag.

"you looking for something by any chance?" he quizzes looking back at me. Giggling slightly I state how I forgot my water at home.

"I don't mind buying you a juice from hildagos if you need? Totally on me" he stands, pulling me up with him. I concider his offer for a second.

"No thank you, it's ok, honestly, you don't have to" I refuse Politely but he wasn't taking it.

"come on, I don't mind. And you need something to drink" he says tilting his head. He tried to persuade me for a few minutes more before I gave in.

"fine, why not... thank you" was my reply.

And with that he smiles leading me down to the juice bar, His hand gently holding mine, and let's me choose a drink.

So I suppose I know now who he is. I was able to find out who the boy that wanted to remain hidden was. And I'm glad I found him. It's only been around 15 minutes of talking and I already am feeling comfortable around him. And it's a new feeling, something different than what I would usually feel towards others, a good different.
