James POV:
I knock on the door and wait patiently for someone to answer. I'd just left Rileys to collect piper from her friends house, I'd had a hunch I wouldn't be back in time yesterday so I said she could stay the night, so now I'm here to take her home.
"good morning James" amileia, pipers friend, greets as she opens the door. I smile down at the child.
"good morning amileia, is piper ready?" I ask politely. She turns her head and calls out to my sister, she doesn't answer.
"ill go get her, step in" she smiles opening the door wider. I do as I'm told and stand by the door as she runs upstairs.
"oh hello James, did you have a nice time last night?" amileias mother asks as she pasts me. Smiling brightly I nod, instantly remembering the night me and Riley had had.
"well that's good, you deserve a nice night out, If u ever need to escape again you can always drop your sister here. She's always welcome and is a delight to have-" she says but is cut off.
"hey James!" piper squeals as she charges down the stairs. I pick her up and spin her around quickly before putting her back down.
"hey pipes! Have a nice time?" I ask ruffling her hair.
"yep" she smiles and it warms my heart. I don't see her smile as often nowadays. So it was a refreshing sight.
"well say your thank you's quickly before we go" I order softly. She turns to amelia and her mum who are stood not very far away now. She thanks them and so do I before we leave.
Now we're sat in my car in silence. The radio is turned down and piper is staring out the window, contently watching the trees and cases go by. I contemplate on making small talk but she'd already spoken up.
"so what did you get up to?" she asks, her tone of voice indicating her bordem and curiosity. I sigh quietly and smile.
"I just went to a party, nothing big" I reply as casually as I can. I'm not planning on telling her exactly what happened throughout last night because it's private. And I'm sure some of it she doesn't wish to hear anyway.
"who did u go with? Your not normally one to go partying" she raises an eyebrow as she turns to me. I don't reply, instead focus on pulling into our drive. And say I'll talk to her inside, This gives me time to think what I'm going to say.
So she falls silent as we approach the house and walk inside, only to repeat her question as soon as I hit the couch. She follows and sits beside me. Clearly intreged.
"I went with a girl-"
"omg you went with Riley!" she squeals excitedly. Jolting up from her seat.
"how'd you guess Riley from that?" I laugh awkwardly. She just rolls her eyes at me then takes her original seat.
"you've had the biggest crush on her for years now James, so whenever u talk about a girl I know it's her. As if you'd ever be able to move on from her. I know you to well" she explains causing me to chuckle. Then I turn to my phone in hopes she's done with her questions. But I was incorrect.
"so... What happened?" she pushes, I don't think I'm getting out of this one so easily.
"come on James Spill the tea!"
"alright, alright fine" I give in reluctantly. If she gets grossed out it's her fault I suppose.
"well we went to Rileys friend's pool party and we hung out, I met a few of her friends and we talked for a while. Then things started to get a bit out of control..." I stop to think. I probably shouldn't say what happened-
"omg what happened! Did like a fight break out or something! Tell me!" she smiles widely, clearly enjoying the story. I close my eyes briefly.
"I suppose you could say that... Riley had gone in to grab some snacks but she took forever. I suddenly had a bad gut feeling and went in to look for her. But she wasn't in the kitchen... That's when I heard crys from upstairs... Turns out a boy was assaulting her... But thankfully I was able to help her before anything got to bad. So I'd punched him a few times before he ran off crying" I explain, watching my sister's expression change several times. She started of curious, then look confused, then disgusted, then sympathetic.
"poor Riley.... She must be traumatised... What did you do after he left?"
"I went over and made sure she was ok. she was in such a state, I felt really bad, and still do, but she asked to go home so I drove her home immediately... Then we fell asleep on her bed" I finish, there's no way I'm telling her about what happened once we'd gotten back.
"that poor girl, she didn't deserve what had happened to her" piper says through a sigh. I agree. Riley is such a kind, sweet, caring girl, She doesn't deserve how some people treat her. She deserves so much more.
After that piper stopped pestering me for further details. I'm relieved honestly. I love her and all but some things are meant to be kept a secret. I turn to my phone and scroll through instagram, not thinking anything of it, until piper catches me staring at a photo. I don't know how I'd ended up on it but turns out I zoned out while staring at it.
"James...?"
"yes pipes?"
"you love her don't you"
"110%... I'd give her the world if I could... "
