Chapter XVAbby wakes up with a start around four in the morning and shakes Otis awake. "I have to go," she whispers. "I don't want to be here when your mom wakes up. But I didn't want to leave without saying anything."
"Okay," Otis says sadly, pouting. "Bye."
"Don't make that fucking face at me," Abby hisses. "You know this is what has to happen. Otherwise, your mom'll kick me out again."
"Can't you at least stay until the sun's up?"
"...When does your mom wake up?"
"Before me," Otis admits. "But she doesn't come in here. She usually goes downstairs."
"Okay, so how am I going to leave the house when she's downstairs," Abby points out. "Go out the window?"
"I mean, it'd be a lot safer than the time you climbed up here drunk."
"...Okay," Abby says, climbing back into bed. "But you aren't ever going to be able to use that face on me again, so be glad it worked this time."
Otis smiles in satisfaction as he takes Abby back into his arms, and she says, "And wipe that shiteating grin off your face. You already proved I'm a simp, so stop gloating about it."
He leans up to look at her face. "You're smiling, too," he points out.
"'Course I am," she says. "What did you expect? I'm a simp."

The next morning, a few hours after Abby's slipped out, Otis gets a video call from Eric.
"My dad gave me my phone back, but I can't go anywhere except for walks around the block for as long as I'm suspended," Eric says. "This took a lot of negotiating, so if you don't tell me everything that happened last night, you will demoted from best friend to friend."
"It's not really a pleasant story," Otis says. "I had a panic attack when she climbed on top of me, so we ended up not having sex, then I told her I loved her and she threw up. But she said she loves me too, so it's not all bad."
"...There's a lot to unpack there," Eric says.

Abby starts pounding on the door to Maeve's caravan until she finally comes out. "Wanna walk to school together," she asks. "And I'll tell you what happened?"
"Look, I'm happy for you two, but I really don't feel like going 'Squee!' about you losing your virginity," Maeve says.
"Well, you see, that part didn't happen," Abby says. "That's why I'm here! Well, that and I brought Starbucks, mostly because I haven't really slept since six in the morning, and I thought, 'why not share the coffee?' So here I am!"
"What kind is it," Maeve asks.
"A vanilla frappucino?"
"So a milkshake with caffeine," Maeve says. "I'll pass."
"What, you only like coffee black?"
"No, I just don't like frappucinos," Maeve says. "I'm more of a latte person."
A brown haired older guy slips into the doorframe behind Maeve. "Wow, Maeve, first Action Man, now Gwyneth Paltrow's daughter," he says. "You really have moved up in the world."
Maeve rolls her eyes. "This is Sean," she says. "Sean, Abby."
"I could take a coffee," he says to Abby. "Besides, sounds like someone oughta take that off your hands."
