You suddenly find yourself paying attention to how much food he's having. Something felt off this morning in the way Jin and Jhope kept telling him to eat more. You've seen girls starve themselves to stay thin in the industry. You're no stranger to diets and the issues that come with them. Yet, if it were a diet, his bandmates would know. You're itching to ask him if he's had enough, but he beats you to the punch.
"Do you want more?" he asks, noticing your empty plate.
"I'm full!" you let out a sigh of contentment, then add, "you?"
"I'm done," he raises his hands in defense. You don't insist. He definitely ate less than you, and that's saying something since you're watching your weight closely these days. Your attention is drawn away by your ringing phone. It's your mother again. Why on earth is she calling so much today?
"You can take that," Suga says.
"No, it's okay," you reply stiffly. He too decides to not insist.
You don't pay heed to your phone until you're back out in the cold again. This time, it's Monica's call, so you answer it.
"Hey, how's it going?" she asks.
"Kinda nice. What's up? Should I give the phone to Rhea?" you ask, chuckling at Suga and the kid prancing in the background. You're all walking to the car.
"I've got some - news for you. You haven't been answering your mom's calls, have you?"
"What news?"
"She's here, at the office. Seyeon's meeting up with her right now."
Suddenly, you feel extremely tired. "Can you handle this, Monica? I really don't want to-""-that's not it. He's coming too. DK. I - didn't Seyeon tell you she was going to call him?"
You stop walking. "What's going on?" you ask, trying to keep your tone as normal as possible.
"It started with Prakriti but he wants to look at your contract. I'm handling it - don't worry. Just keep Rhea with you tonight, I don't see this ending soon."
"I won't reach Seoul before 10 - that's still 3 hours,"
"Go straight home and sleep. I'll take care of this. Your mother hasn't threatened to kill him yet,"
"I hope she does. It's the only thing I like about her these days,""Hm. How's your date going?"
"My-Monica!" you protest. You blush harder when your exclamation makes Suga look at you. You put your head down and start walking again.
"I meant a playdate with my daughter but I sense something else?"
There's a pause. "I'm coming to the office. Let them know,"
"Y/N, don't come unless you're ready,"
"I have to be. You know I should be there, you wouldn't be calling and telling me otherwise."
Monica sighs. "Alright. You might just make it in time."
"See you," you say before ending the call. You're already on the busy main street. The cars, little bustling shops or the odd set of street performers fail to grab your attention. Listlessly, you follow Suga and Rhea towards the latter. A large banner at a clothing store depicts a fashionably dressed man and a woman sitting on a traditional throne. What silly concept is that - you think, imagining your mother and DK in the banner instead. The seniormost board member of Prakriti Foundation, the woman you gave up on long ago. And the CEO of Ribbon Entertainment, the owner of half your songs - the man you never married but can't seem to divorce out of your life.
You squeeze into the crowd around a street magician. His card tricks are basic but his antics are funny. Rhea seems to be impressed though. Your mind is still elsewhere, so you're a little surprised to find Suga standing so close to you and observing you.
"Everything okay?" he asks.
"Yeah, it's okay," you answer, holding on to his gaze, the wind in his hair and the little beauty spot near his nose. It's hard to fathom his expression under the mask, but his usually sharp eyes are a little gentle today. You lean into his left ear, "I've got to go back now. To Seoul."
He looks at you for about half a second before nodding. You've got to go but you don't want to. He isn't sure of that, though. He saw your demeanor change on the phone call. You seemed to go through a wave of turbulent emotions, but now you were coming back, going oooh and aaah with the crowd as if you'd never seen anything as impressive. This is what he meant, he thinks, when he called you normal - your ability to let things go and be honestly involved in the moment was still there somehow.
