The mansion was bustling with life; chit-chats filled the air on the eve of Diwali as the family members excitedly updated one another about the progress and changes in their own lives. Most were bragging, some were complaining and only a few were genuinely listening.

Everyone kept moving around the house, getting a drink, grabbing a snack and greeting familiar faces while waiting for the powerful old woman - the host of this luxurious dinner party who also happened to be the possessor of several billion dollar companies and businesses.

People knew all the fun had to be curbed once she made an entrance so they were determined to enjoy the party as much as possible while they still could.

However, the two people that were already waiting by the dining table were ruining the image of the electrifying party.

They could not care less about mingling, socializing or entertainment. They were not there to party, they were there to make an announcement - loud and clear.

A final announcement that would bless them with the freedom they had been yearning for - just that they were not sure if they would simply be freed from what they wished to be or they would be freed from life entirely because their 60 year old grandmother was certainly capable of strangling them both to death after they broke the news they had brought along as a surprise.

The guests rushed to get seated the moment the grey-haired lady entered and settled on the head of a table. Her eyes scanned the table, taking a good look at her large family. She was pleased and nodded in satisfaction when she did a quick headcount and realised all her 16 children and 28 grandchildren had showed up along with several great grandchildren.

Not that they had a choice.

Her constant threat to give away all her assets to the charity if her family members pissed her off was her trump card. The fear of losing their inheritance got them all to succumb to her demands. They needed to be on her good books and butter up to her.

She just knew that her offsprings and descendants were not as capable as her and needed her guidance. That's why from college, job and business plans to the interior design of their personal toilet, the old lady had a say in every part of their life.

Even marriage in some cases.

Just like the couple she was eyeing right now with a thin smile as she sensed some tension between them in the air.

"How are you two doing?"

All eyes now turned to focus on the couple whom her question was directed to.

Sivaangi tried to give her a bright smile. "We're fine, thank you."

Ashwin slowly turned to glance at her, and narrowed his eyes. "Don't answer for me woman. Yenaku naa badhil sollipen."

Sivaangi let out a deep sigh as she rolled her eyes. "Fine! How are you doing today Ashwin?"

He gave her a lopsided grin. "I'm fine, thank you."

That earned him a sharp glare from her as she mumbled some inaudible curse words between her lips. He smiled in victory for riling her up and turned to face their grandmother who was staring at them with amusement ; the same amusement that she had even 3 years ago when she got them both married.

The two were definitely one of the most interesting match that was made in hell by the devil in the name of their grandmother.

She was an overachiever, always thriving back in school and now she worked for the government as a translator and interpreter thanks to the high language proficiency she owned. Being one of the most successful figures in the family, at least in terms of her financial stability, she managed to move out of their family mansion and purchased her own posh apartment.
