She told me of her mother's anger, her threat, and finally, Darshini's decision. When I took a sharp intake of air upon hearing this, I noticed her body tense up beside me. "You gave in to the Rani's wishes?" I questioned, though I fully knew the answer myself now.
"What else could I do? She would have had you killed, otherwise. I do not know how I'd live knowing that I was the cause of your departure." The light, both from the lantern and the moon, showed Darshini in front of me.
"And I've told you - that without you, there is no me." Her shoulders were still pressed firmly against her side, but they relaxed once I reached out to them. "Nothing will be easy now, you said so yourself. But nothing is impossible, either. I have a suggestion, if I may?"
