At last, the long awaited Sports Festival had come.
Everyone else was ecstatic. All except for Saiki.
"What's so special about a sporting event? We're just showing off our quirks, right?"
Arial gave him a shocked look.
"No! You just aren't excited for it because you can easily win it and not break a sweat..." Arial huffed.
Saiki was about to protest, but he thought better of it.
"Ha! So I'm right!" Arial made a smug smile.
"No, arguing with you is just a waste of time." Saiki didn't even glance in her direction.
At that comment, Arial made an overdramatized, offended look.
They both stood there in silence as they waited for an announcement.
"Hello, students! Welcome to the Sports Festival!"
Everyone cheered at that announcement.
"The first event is...an obstacle course! It loops around the stadium, and is 4km long! But don't slack off! Only the first 42 students who finish will make it to the next round! And...go!"
At that one word, everyone rushed to be in front. In the end, Todoroki was in the lead.
Saiki stayed behind.
"Good grief... If I wanted to, I could teleport to the end."
"I guess Arial was right... I could easily win this..." Saiki then heard a thought from a teacher.
"I can't wait to tell them that the first guy who wins this gets a disadvantage in the next round! It'll really pull the rug out from under 'em!"
Saiki made a small smirk.
"Not me." Saiki slowed down.
"I'll do what I always do, and finish in the middle. This should prevent problems..."
Used clairvoyance to see who was in the lead, still Todoroki, but with Bakugo gaining on him.
"I guess I'll get a drink while I wait." He flew over to the nearest vending machine and got a coffee.
He finished after a couple minutes.
"That's some good coffee." He finished and floated his can to the recycle bin.
"I guess I should check again."
Saiki checked who was finished and who was not.
So far, nearly 20 people have finished. I guess I should go." Saiki teleported to the finish line and jogged into the arena.
He saw Arial sweating and drinking from her water bottle nearby.
"Oh man...I am so tired..." She panted.
"Why didn't you just fly?" Saiki approached her.
"Oh hey, Saiki... Think about it, my wings are my main advantage, if I tire them now, I won't be able to use them when I need them..."
"That's a...surprisingly competent move..."
"I'll take that as a compliment." Arial was about to close her water bottle when she noticed Saiki staring at it.
"Want some?" She held it out.
"That's not water. What is in there? It looks...unholy..." Saiki asked.
Arial shrugged.
"Some combination of Monster, Coffee, and Pixy Stix. But today I mixed in some water for hydration..." Arial took another sip.
Saiki gave her an astounded, deeply concerned look.
"You're kidding."
"Nope! This is what's in here everyday!" Arial smiled.
"How the hell do you drink that daily?!"
"You get used to it after a few days...You know, after it numbs all of your tastebuds..." Arial shrugged again.
Saiki then walked away.
"I'm going to ignore that." Saiki then bumped into Midoriya.
"Oh, hey Saiki!" He greeted.
"I saw that you came in first." Saiki said.
"Yeah!" He smiled awkwardly.
"I'm surprised you didn't beat me to it..." He said.
"Unlike you and everyone else, I'm not looking to stand out. I used my powers to come in the middle, in 21st place." Saiki explained.
"Well, I'm glad you made it!"
Saiki nodded.
Everyone gathered around the stage in the arena.
Midnight is the referee for the Year 1's festival.
She announced that the next game is Cavalry Battle.
After explaining what it is, everyone started to get into their groups.
Everyone crowded around Saiki, wanting him to be on their team.
Of course, he rejected them all.
They soon found other groups, and unfortunately for Saiki, got paired up with Arial.
"Heh...sorry..." Arial apologized, wearing an awkward smile on her face.
"I'll be the rider." Saiki got straight to the point.
Arial nodded, helping Saiki on her back.
"You sure you can carry me?"
"Yep! I'll be fine! Besides, I'm hyped up on Energy drinks and coffee, so that helps!" Arial grinned.
Saiki listened into the rest of the announcement.
It turns out that Saiki's move was right. The first place winner of the obstacle course had a point count of 10 million, making whoever was in first place, in this case Midoriya, a big target.
Saiki smirked.
"Looks like I was right after all."
Arial caught the look on his face.
"You knew this would happen, didn't you?" She raised a nonexistent eyebrow.
Saiki did not confirm nor deny this fact.
"Well, I already know the answer." Arial shrugged.
"Ready...go!"
And with that, the Cavalry Battle has begun.
