You, the guiding Polaris
I, the bunny chasing Alice,
A mere look at thy golden effigy
Is an auspice, a rosy prodigy,
You are victory, that is certain,
Triumph, when I would attain!........................................ ......................... ..........................
The pictures were scattered around the table. Every one showing the same woman. Or what was left of her body anyway. Burnt, beyond recognition, the little sight of her teeth were visible too. The skin around the face burned badly making her look like the character she used to play on his birthday once upon a time.
He couldn't take his eyes away from them. Looking, searching, hoping that any of it will speak and tell me the reason why she was in that state.
"They say a fire broke out in the chemical factory beside the building." Mild's voice was half-muffled. Chicken's crunching sound can be heard from even where he was standing. "You know how it is in downtown area. Too crowded."
"And too easy for murder." Gulf leaned more to get a better picture of the views after putting the cigarette in his hand in the astray. "That's why the murder can be misguided as just an accident. Nobody will ask. Nobody will care for who lives there. Too easy."
Mild nodded then got up keeping his now empty plate on the table. "Can you ask your secretary to order another brunch from that restaurant? Their chicken really is the best."
He glared at his idiot of a friend before looking down again at the pictures. Hand already dialing his secretary's number. It is unnecessary to say that she wasn't surprised to order the 3rd brunch of that day.
"Tell me again why am I getting you another?"
Mild leaned over him looking at the same pictures. "Because you can't say no to me."
He looked up glaring at that son of a bitch. "And why the fuck is that?"
"Because I will kill you if you do." Sometimes he wonder why this dangerous man has such an innocent face.
"Forget about it Suttinut. I am gonna be the one who will put a bullet through that fucking brain of yours."
Mild laughed again. "Well, that can happen too. Now let's move on to this beauty. Your Aunt looks more good as dead."
Gulf looked at her pictures. Nothing but burnt flesh met his eyes. "Too bad she wasn't alive to see herself. Now onto the subject. What did you find there?"
The disappointed shoulder shaking didn't escape from his eyes. "Nothing, some crying family members, a stripper half naked woman running, a child who was just about to potty then and a priest."
His brain stopped at the last word. Priest. A priest. In an area that was supposedly for people who are too below society standard to live among them. Interesting.
"Did you talk to that person?"
"Who? The stripper? No, she was half naked. My eyes weren't on her lips that time."
He looked at the idiot in front of him, trying to decide exactly what was holding him back from putting the bullets in that head. He really was seriously gonna kill this bastard someday who were chugging wine like water right now. "Priest." His teeth were grinding against each other while looking at the oblivious idiot.
"No, he left before I could ask anything? But why are you asking? He seems out of suspicion list."
Gulf didn't replied. Instead light up another cigar, puffing another smoke before looking at his dead Aunt's pictures again. "It's always the people who are less suspicious should be on the watch list."
