"Just because you smoke doesn't mean I won't like you." Most of my friends and family members smoke and I still like them. It's just a poor choice they're making by doing it.
"Many people don't like me anyways so I doubt you'd be any different." He inhaled the smoke one last time before throwing the cigarette out.
"You don't even know me, so stop judging." What Xavier said annoyed me. He was comparing me to people who have obviously hurt him in the past. "Plus, I'm not like other people."
"Prove it then." I could tell Xavier's eyes were on me even though the darkness prevented us from seeing each other's faces.
"How do you want me to prove it?" Xavier sounded serious now, and it makes me believe without a doubt that he is alone. Everyone has left him.
"We'll keep coming up here at midnight every single day," Xavier's voice was firm. "we'll get to know each other and if things go fine and I do open up to you, we'll see if you do like the real me." He paused for a moment before he spoke up again . "Let's see if you do runaway like the others."
I stayed silent as I processed everything that Xavier had just said. He makes it sound like he's done something terrible. Now I was curious to know who he really was, and I doubt that whatever he's done in the past would change my thoughts on him. So far he seems like an okay guy.
"Deal." I whispered.
