The time was now 1:37 A.M. Jessica and Kate were lying on Kates living room floor, while some random movie played on the tv with low volume.

"Jess? Are you awake?"

"Yeah. Are you?"

"Yeah." Kate answered with a small laugh. Jessica could always manage to make her laugh, no matter how she felt. Jessica scooted closer to her. The closeness caused her stomach to tie in knots. Why did Jessica always make her feel so nervous? They were good friends, she was so easy to talk to. Kate had nothing against her. So what could be causing her to feel this way?

"You ok?" Jessica asked in a low voice, almost a whisper.

Kate rolled over to face her.

"Yeah. I just cant stop thinking about tonight.

"Me neither." Jessica sighed. "Honestly, how could they be so disrespectful? Someone died, wouldn't you think they could at least be civil then?"

Kate just nodded, getting lost in Jessicas eyes. They were like pools of sunlight. They had a certain glow to them. Why were they so mesmerizing? It was like a spell, one cast to hold her captive forever.

——————

Jessica stared at Kate. Watching her gorgeous features move into different expressions. She was so beautiful. Captivating...

——————

Why did Kate feel like this? So encapsulated by this girl. She didn't think about any of her other friends this way. She was different. Why was she different? And why wasn't she breaking the eye contact? Bits and pieces of their friendship flashed through Kates memory. Every time they touched, they looked at each other, they stood side by side, they embraced...

There was one thing each of these moments had in common. Kate always had that feeling in her stomach. Why? What did it mean?

——————

Why was Kate looking at her like that? The look made Jessicas heart feel as if it would explode. She wanted to tell Kate exactly how she felt. Tell her everything she loved about her. How she could just sit and stare at her and never get bored. She wanted to tell her all of it...

——————

Oh my God...
Kates mind was racing. It couldn't be. There was no way...

——————

Jessicas heart beat sped up. Faster and faster it went, the soft sound echoing in her ears. It was as if it was talking to her. Do it, do it, do it...

——————

Nerves flooded through Kates veins. She felt like she was shaking. Her heart beat loudly in her chest, as if it was a bomb about about to go off. Tick, tick, tick..

Boom

——————

"Kate..."

——————

"Jess..."

——————

"I like you."

They said it in unison.

A wave of relief washed over Kate. Everything made sense now. Every time they'd ever been together, made sense. The feelings had always been there. But neither of them could say it.

Jessica let out a small laugh. Just one little breath. Kate pursed her lips. She tried to keep it in. She started laughing too, and soon they were both lying on their backs, laughing uncontrollably. Jessica scooted over a little bit, and lied her head on Kates stomach. They snuggled up together, and fell asleep.

It took Kate a little bit longer than Jessica to fall asleep. She just couldn't believe how she hadn't seen it before. How could a person not know their own feelings?

Eventually, exhaustion took over, and Kate fell asleep too.

Jessica sat on the couch next to Simon. He had come over to Kates house after work, and now the two were "helping" Kate babysit. Kate was in the other room, explaining something to the two kids she was watching.

Jessica turned to look at the TV. Simon was watching some movie about sharks or something.

"Ah, gross." She said, scrunching her face up as they showed a clip of some guys dumping blood into the ocean. He just laughed at her.

"Uh, hello? What happened to sorting these?" Kate asked, entering the room. She began to show Simon what to do with the laundry piled in front of him.

"Remind me whats in it for me again?"

"No." Kate smiled. She looked at something in her pocket, then left the room again to go do something.

"You're still wearing that?" Jessica asked, gesturing to Simons t-shirt from the night before, which was still covered in Sams blood.

"It's all I had clean." He replied, then took it off. She rolled her eyes and shook her head at him, leaving the room to go get a snack, Simon trailing not far behind her.

They ended up in the dining room, where the two little girls sat. Sorting pills. Jessica frowned at it, but moved on pretty quickly. Simon grabbed a handful of cheerios from the box on the table, and began chewing on them very loudly, much to Jessicas dismay. Kate came back, noticing Simons lack of a shirt.

"Jesus, put something on."

"Jeez woman!" He exclaimed, choking out the words around the snack in his mouth. She turned to Jessica, just getting a shrug in return.

Suddenly, a loud crash came from the other room.
Jessica and Kate shared a look.

"Stay here." Kate told the girls, and they eagerly nodded.

Carefully, the three teenagers crept to where the sound came from, Kate leading, Jessica right behind her, and Simon in the back.

As they carefully made their way to the living room, the sound of someone rummaging through things became clear.

"Maybe this isn't a good idea..." Simon whispered.

Jessica shushed him, and they continued towards the sound.

Kate looked around a corner, with Jessicas head right next to hers.

A dark figure stood there, digging through the baskets of laundry. Jessica gasped in horror, while Kate boldly stepped out.

"Hey creeper, what the fu-" Jessica grabbed her arm, yanking her back around the corner.

"What the hell are you doing!" Jessica whisper-screamed at her.

"Relax, it's just that Sunnyvale jerk." She replied, turning back towards the room. But the figure was gone.

"How..."

They looked around the room, taking in the damage.

Simon picked up his shirt. It had been ripped near to shreds.

"What the..."

Jessica looked up at Kate. She was mad. REALLY mad. She stormed out of the room, and Jessica followed.

"Get your things, we're going on a little field trip." She told the kids, who were still at the table, waiting anxiously for her to return.

"Where are we going?" Jessica whispered to Kate, following her out the door with Simon and the kids trailing behind them.

"I'm dropping them off at a neighbors house. And then we're gonna get back at this asshole"
