Wilder's POV

I didn't want to leave her, but I had a case today. It took all of my self-control to not leave work and go back to my little one. I was irritable all day, and my partner noticed.

"Martin, what's your problem today? You've been extra pissed off at our target."

"It's nothing man I just want to get home." We're driving back to our headquarters to finish our reports and then hopefully go home.

We write our detailed reports, mine quicker than Matt's. Matt has been my partner for my entire career, he's like a brother to me.

I rush out of the building as soon as I finish my report. Desperate to get back to my girl.

I rush home, possibly speeding but being as safe as possible. When I pull into the driveway I'm quick to get out. As I'm getting out I look over at Merlin's pasture, reminded of where we first met. I'm expecting to see Merlin messing around in her pasture, but I'm not expecting to see Danaë sitting on the fence.

I speed walk over to her, but she's so focused on something she doesn't notice me until I'm a couple of feet away

I speed walk over to her, but she's so focused on something she doesn't notice me until I'm a couple of feet away. She seems shocked at my appearance which is odd because I'm just as shocked at hers.

"Little one, what are you doing here?" I walk up to her, she hasn't looked me in the eyes and is currently facing the opposite direction.

"I-I-I c-can leave if y-you w-want." her voice trembles more than usual and she sniffles at the last words.

"No! I-uh mean no you can stay.  I just didn't expect to see you here."  I really don't want her to leave me.

"N-no I-I s-shouldn't be h-here." she moves to climb down the fence but I grab her before she can get down.

"Please, don't leave." I'm practically begging her.

"W-why d-do y-you want me t-to s-stay? Y-you d-don't l-like m-me." She still hasn't looked at me.

I climb over the fence and stand in front of her. I take her face in my hands and turn it to look at me.

"Little one, of course, I like you. You're the best thing that has ever happened to me." I stare into her eyes as they grow at my small speech.

"B-but y-you l-left m-me." a group of tears rolls down her chubby cheek, and it breaks something in me.

"Little one, I had to go to work. I didn't want to leave you. I rushed home as soon as I was done." her eyebrows scrunched up in confusion and if I wasn't so worried about her I would have found it cute.

"S-so you d-don't t-think I-I'm a-a b-baby?" Her doe eyes are filled with unshed tears that I will do anything to stop them from spilling.
"No, I think you're my little one," I tell her, with the utmost sincerity.

"I-I d-don't k-know." She reverts back to her embarrassed and scared self and I hate it.

I grab her by the hips and pick her up. She squeals but I know she's not scared.

"Little one, you are the only person I care this much about. I need you. But some days I will have to go to work. And I'll try to stay the night with you as much as I can. I would've left you a note but I didn't think you would feel this way."

She hugs me so tight but I don't mind.

"I c-care a-about y-you t-too." Her meek voice surprises me but I'm so glad she told me.

"Little one, do you want to come in for a little bit?"

"A-am I a-allowed?" her voice was back to being shaky and I cursed myself in my head for making her scared again.

"Of course, you are little one. My house is yours."

She looks up at me seemingly shocked.

"W-why?" was all she said to me.

"Because you are my little one," I tell her as I stroke her cheek with my thumb.

I take milo's leash off the post and I hike Danaë higher up my hip. She giggles and I never want to forget that sound.

We, more like I walk to the house. I can feel Danaë get more comfortable the closer I get to the house. Milo seems just as content walking with me, he seems to be quite the energetic puppy.

She lifts her head as she senses me walking into the house. Her eyes widen.

"Y-your h-house i-is s-so pretty!" she wiggles so I let her down. As soon as I set her feet down, she's running around the house stopping at everything she finds interesting.

It takes her another five minutes to remember I'm here.

"I l-l-love y-your h-h-house!" she's practically buzzing with her excitement. It makes me feel some kind of way to see her so happy.

Barely anyone has seen my house and I don't think will show anyone else it, because if they don't react the way my little one does then was any of it worth it.

"Hey little one, do you want a tour?" once again her eyes light up, it makes me wonder why her reactions are so exaggerated for normal things.

"Y-yes p-please." I grab her tiny hand with one of mine, and I'm still holding Milo's. I take him and Danaë to my dog kennels and drop Milo off in the room.

"W-why d-do you have a-a r-room of d-dog k-kennels?" ok, I expected this question.

"I have 5 dogs, so it's easier to just have one room for them." I can see her scanning the house, most likely for my dogs.

"They're at the boarding kennel right now, I've been out on an assignment and yesterday was my first day back home."

"O-oh t-that makes se-sense."

I show her the rest of the house, her main priority was my bedroom, which hopefully soon won't be just mine.
