Oneshot series: Father's Day {Part 1}

>>~~~~~~~~~~<<

"Mommy mommy mommy!" A light voice squeals from outside the bedroom. Not even a second later, my son, who turned four three days ago, barges into the room, immediately making a smile creep onto my face.

"Hi baby," I say in a soft voice and open my arms for him, whom he gladly jumps into. "What's up?"

Ted looks up at me with these big brown eyes, that he inherited from his dad, "why mommy sad?" He asks and sticks a finger in his mouth.

I sigh slightly and press my lips to his forehead for a few moments, "mommy is not sad, sweetheart. I just miss your dad very much"

He nods understanding and leans back against my chest, holding onto my hand with his small one, "me misses daddy too."

Theo has been gone for almost two months, he is in England to film a new movie that he has the leading role in. It was planned that he would be home for Ted's birthday but the shooting dragged on and he had to stay.

Since we got married 11 years ago, I have never spent more than 24 hours without him, so let's just say that it was a very hard decision for us both to make whether or not he should take the job. The only reason he took it, was because he's not had a big job like that since a movie he did three years after The Divergent series ended.

It's been hard without Theo here. Three children is a big mouthful when it comes to being alone with them for two months, and there's only more to come.

My eyes flicker to the two pictures on the bedside table. One is from our wedding day, Theo has his lips pressed to my forehead and his hands are on my waist. Love beams from his eyes. I have my hands on his chest and both my eyes are closed and my mouth forms a smile.

The other picture is a family picture in which Theo and I are sitting on a couch with our three children sitting in our laps. The look on Theo's face as he looks at our kids, is priceless.
He loves them so much, you can see it in the way he looks at them.

"Mommy?" Ted's voice brings me back to reality, I look down at him. "Can we visit daddy soon?"

"I don't know, Teddy," I say and run a through his tiny, brown curls on top of his head. He is an exact copy of Theo. "Daddy is working. I'm sure he will be home soon, though, don't you think?"

To my big surprise, Ted shakes his head and buries it in my chest. "Daddy not like us anymore. Daddy left because we not sweet anymore"

"Ted," I say with a slight sigh and push him back a little so I can look him in the eyes, "what makes you say that?"

He pouts and avoids my gaze, "daddy not here for very long. He is not liking us anymore"

Just when I'm about to tell him that his dad would never leave us, that he loves us more than anything, there's a squeal from downstairs: "Grandma!" "Uncle Tanner!" My two girls squeal in unison.

Ted lights up and jumps down from my lap, running out of the bedroom and downstairs before I can even get the chance of saying anything.

I run a hand over my face and through my hair, then I follow my son downstairs.

My mom and brother Tanner are in the living room when I come downstairs. For a moment I had forgot all about them coming for dinner.

They are here every once in a while, my mother brings or makes dinner to help me a little.

Tanner is already getting attacked by Ted, Amber and Maggie, our 7 and 10 year old daughters, when I come downstairs.

Chuckling, my mother walks to the kitchen and I follow her.

"Oh, hi honey," she says when she notices me. She smiles and brings me into a hug.

"Hi mom," I smile at her and dive into the bag she just sat on the counter, "what did you bring this time?"

Charlie, the family dog, lays its head in my lap, and I bring my hand up to run it over his golden fur.

Amber, Maggie and Ted are running around in the whole house, playing hide and seek with Tanner.

We just finished a delicious meal cooked by my mom, and it seems like that one glass of coke they each got, was enough for them to get all hyper.

My mom turns her head to look at me, the gaze she sends me, tells that she has something serious to talk about.

"What?" I ask dumbfounded.

"How are you doing?" She asks.

I sigh a little and lean back in the couch, my hand still scratching Charlie behind the ear. "We're fine... But they keep asking if we can visit him. And I keep telling them that we can't because--"

"Shai," my mom says sternly, "do it"

"What?"

She lays a hand on my thigh, "Father's Day is coming up and you guys always do something special for Theo. I think you should go to England and surprise him, I'm sure he would be happy about that"

"Yes it's a good idea, mom. But what about the house? And Charlie? And the girls have to attend school."

"Shailene," my mom only uses my full name very occasionally. "I will take care of the house while you are gone and Charlie can easily stay at my house. I have taken care of him several times before, you know."

"What about Amber and Maggie? They have to attend their school." I really want to visit Theo, but England is far away, and a ten hour flight is not something you just do when you have three kids.

My mom raises her eyebrows at me, "seriously? Is that the only thing that keeps you from visiting your husband? The father to your children whom you haven't seen for two months? Shai, you need to have better arguments than that"

"But--"

My mom raises a finger to cut me off, "he probably misses you and the kids. I'm sure he would be astonished if you paid him a visit"

I think for a few minutes. Like I already said, I miss Theo like hell. After two months, I'm starving after his touch, I'm starving after his lips against mine, and most of all just starving after his entire presence. It's not like I don't want to visit him, and since I don't have any particular reason to decline the chance of getting a small trip with my family, I decide to give in.

"Okay," I say.

My mom lights up and opens her mouth to say something, but I cut her off, "but you have to promise me one thing, though."

"Anything, honey"

"Don't over feed Charlie"

She leans her head back and lets out a laugh, "I think I can manage that"

With that, I can't help but let a smile creep onto my face and feel the happiness grow inside of me.

We're going to see Theo. I'm going to see Theo.
