chapter ten - just resurrection and besos

(kisses)

mirabel crouched, being protected as the casita fell down, crying as it fell. her best friend was in there. though they didn't talk daily, camila got her like no one else, like no one else ever will again. once everything was safely fallen, camilo was the first to come onto the broken grounds, finishing his cousin, and nobody else. "where... where's cami?" he stuttered. mirabel came out of her shelter, tears running down her throat with a blown out candle in her hands. just at this, his question was answered. he started to cry, hugging his cousin for support, and mirabel hugged back for the same reason.

they fell to the ground in the hug, sobbing in each other's shoulders. "I love her." mirabel said between tears. "I love her more." camilo sighed with shakes in his sigh. soon, they both had to get up and return to their family, their parents bringing them in for a hug.

"oh! look, it's my leopard... and a lady friend!!" antonio called excitedly. the whole family turned their heads to see it was in fact antonio's leopard... with another leopard at his side. antonio's leopard growled something at the other one, and it licked his face with a smile, before walking up to antonio and resting its head in his hand, softly growling. antonio slapped a hand over his mouth, wide eyed. "no way! THATS AWESOME!!" antonio jumped around, turning to his family. "what is it, papito?" pepa asked.

at that moment, the leopard suddenly wasn't a leopard anymore. it was a girl. specifically.... camila.

camila could shapeshift into FREAKING ANIMALS.

the whole family gasped at the girl. they thought she was dead. "I didn't know I could do that." she stated. the whole family rushed to her, kissing her cheeks and hugging her tightly. luisa was carrying the girl, hugging her while camila hung limply from under her armpits.. "hey, luis." camila smiled. at one point, everyone dispersed and camila found camilo looking at her with a dropped jaw. "hola, papi." camilo ran to her, hurriedly picking her and hugging her tightly, so tightly he was afraid she could disappear in her arms if he held her too loose. it felt like camila's ribs were tightening.

"hola, idiota." camilo muttered in her shoulder. the family watched the two best friends hug each other, admiring the rich moment. that was, until they realized mirabel was gone. slowly, they dispersed from camilo and camila, yelling for mirabel. a couple moments later, they pulled away from the hug, but camilo still held onto her. "don't you... ever put someone else first again." camilo sighed, tears drying in his cheeks. now that no one else was around, camila smiled sweetly, wiping his tears. "I can't do that, mi amor. we both know that. but lo siento, lo siento mucho. (I'm sorry, I'm very sorry.)" "it's not ok." camilo did a fake pout, letting camila kiss him on the nose gently. "you love me." camila smirked lightly.

camilo rolled his eyes, putting the girl back down, so that camila has to look up at camilo, at the height of camilo's shoulder. they stared at one another for what felt like years, before camilo tucked a strand of hair behind her ear and mumbled, "¿puede darte un beso, por favor? (can I give you a kiss, please?)" a soft smile covered camila's lips, and as she gave a light nod, they kissed.

butterflies bursted in their stomachs. literally sparks erupted from their lips, flying over to the candle the grew back and lit up again. the flame was bright, like the connection.

they came apart from each other, camila cupped his cheeks, wiping his cheeks with her thumb. they smiled at each other with a new glow in their eyes. "we're so sappy." camilo commented. "i usually hate sappy, but we're kinda killing it." camila admitted. "oh, yeah, we're gonna make all the couples in the village jealous and make them realize how they will never live up to us!" camilo grinned. camila laughed, shaking her head. "te amo." she couldn't keep the big puppy dog grin off her face. "te amo mucho." camilo responded, kissing camila on the cheek.

the full candle caught both of their eyes, widened eyes. "oh, look at that!" camila excitedly mentioned. "did we do that?" she asked. "we did that!" camilo jumped, his curly hair erupting as he jumped. they grabbed each other's hands, shakin their arms in excitement.

"mirabel!" they heard julieta yell, indicating they had found mirabel. camila looked and camilo, instantly running to where the voice came from. when mirabel saw camila, mirabel crouched to the ground at the sight of the girl, pulling her hand over her mouth, in shock. "cami?" mirabel asked, tearing up. "hey girl, you didn't think you could get rid of me that easily, did you?" camila laughed. mirabel laughed with her, running and hugging her tightly.

"I hate you. don't you ever do that again."
