There are words you hear at the beginning of your life
Promising you a good life full of happiness and love
There are those words that change the future
Making those first promises almost obsolete
Words that are written in graphite can be erased
However, those written in ink will be here forever
Words you didn't ask to hear
Though your mind keeps them as a journal does
Words will never hurt me
Unless you're studying psychology then you realize they will
Words that build you up but also can break you down
Words that are only yours and mine
Words that are whispered and those that are shouted
All these words are with me until the end
Like the promise of a friend
