From what he could remember, his father had an unidentified illness that even the doctors couldn't name. But seeing his mother so grief-stricken and his sister so heartbroken, it shattered something in him.
His entire life had flipped completely on its head, and now he wasn't the same cheery, optimistic young boy he used to be.
