Towards the end of the day Gwen invited me over for dinner so I said yes. Was I nervous meeting my uncle, yes? I didn't even know he existed so can you blame me? She gave me her address so after school I went home to clean up then made my way over to her place.

"You must be Madeline." Gwen's mother opens the door.

"That's me." I laugh as she lets me in.

"Madeline, this is my mom and these are my brothers, Howard, Philip, and Simon." Gwen smiles.

"Hello." I wave.

"So she's our cousin?" Simon asks.

"Yes, her mom was my sister." Gwen's dad walks into the room. "You look just like her." He smiles at me.

"I'm sure they're gonna wanna talk so let's leave them alone." Gwen's mom tells everyone so they leave the room.

"I was the first to arrive at the crash. When I saw it was my sister I broke down. I wish we could've made up before it was too late. Gwen said she told you we had a fight about your father. I thought she could've done better than him. He was a trouble maker and she wasn't. Her type of record was a perfect one to get into the best schools while his type of record was perfect to get him into any jail." I can't help but laugh a little.

"But I was wrong because from afar I knew she changed him. I just didn't want to apologize to her so I stayed away from her. I know you hear it enough but I'm sorry about both of your parents." I nod my head.

"It's okay, I got used to hearing it. I'm sorry too. About my mom." He gets up from the couch and we hug it out. "Welcome to the family." He makes me laugh.

I knew I should've known that for the next coming days Peter was trying to distance himself from me. Whenever I asked if he wanted to hangout after school he would make up some excuse. Then on days when we had no school he was still too busy to talk or hangout with me. I know some people like to be alone but he promised he wouldn't push me away.

"Hey!" I run up to him as I see him as I come out of school.

"Maddie." He smiles at me.

"Don't smile and Maddie me." I cross my arms at him.

"Oh come on. Are you still upset with me?" He says as we keep walking.

"Yes! You said you wouldn't push me away and-," He cuts me off.

"I'm not pushing you away. Now, I have something important I have to do. I'm sorry." He says walking faster.

"Madeline!" I turn around to see Gwen walking towards me. I look back to where Peter was but he was already gone.

"What?" I ask her.

"My mom wanted to know if you wanted to come over for dinner tonight." She says as we walk.

"Not tonight. I promised to pick up dinner for my aunt tonight."

"Okay. I'm sure she will understand. Bye." Gwen leaves and I head home. I got the right amount of money to buy my aunt Quinn dinner to take to the hospital.

It was already dark by the time I was making my way to the hospital with aunt Quinn's food. "Hello." A man pops out of nowhere. I don't say anything and just keep walking.

"Where are you going?" He follows me. "It's rude to ignore me little lady." I hear his footsteps quicken.

As I turn the corner another man pops out blocking me.

"Look, I don't have any money to give." I tell them.

"We're not dumb. You just bought food." The second walks up to me.
