HE'S MINE

My parents sat together on the sofa while is at alone at the single sofa. All of us staring at my my phone sitting awkwardly on the centre table.

What lead to this situation?

during dinner

We all say in shock, trying to digest the new information we just gotten.

"I haven't touched a book since Jade came " I whispered to no one in particular. My mom pushed forward and her chair fell down backward. She ran to the sitting room and grabbed her phone.

"what are you doing" my dad asked his voice laced with confusion and concern. My mom shot a panicked look at him and then at me then back to her phone.

"Obviously I'm going to call the police or NASA. An alien invasion is come to earth or a natural disaster is about to come." She said As she sneakily grasped her phone. My father burst into a fits of laughter while I blushed groaning.

"Mom! " I groaned out.

" Hi Kathy" she called out. I lunged and slapped her phone away. It fell and scattered on the floor while my dad's fit of laughter.

My mom stared at me shocked.

"Honey, we need to go see a neurologist " she said,  horror painted on her face. I sat on the couch rubbing my temple. Just then my phone began to ring.

All three of us glanced at the kitchen barstool where my phone laid and leaped at it.

My dad was fast but my mom reached it. The name Jade flashed on my screen and my eyes widened in surprise. I used the back of my hand to hit the phone before it fell in a different direction. As we leaped towards it,  the door burst open.

"Freeze" a deep voice growled. We did that exactly as a police man came into view, another behind him.

He stared at us confused looking around.

"we got a call for an armed robbery from here? " the polic man said,  his pose becoming more relaxed but the tension was still there.

As the gun hanged by his side. As he stared at us. My dad was the first of us to recover as he stood up straight.

"Sorry officer, my son forgot his exams were coming and my wife went a little loco. " my dad said. My mom smacked him on his arm and he chuckled.

The officer tired to look at my mom-"your the one who called Kathy? " he asked. My mom nodded.

"Please refrain from prank calls, your a bit to old to do so" he said and shoved the gun into the holster telling the other officer behind him something,  meanwhile my mom got ready to lunge at him, my dad wrapped his hand around her waist covering her mouth with his other hand preventing whatever curses she was about to spout out.

The officer turned to look at us. His brows arched at my parents not so lovely display of affection.

"Sorry for the door. Have a nice night "

"Is she gonna call again? " my mom asked. My dad shrugged as all of us kept on staring at the phone. A few minutes later it started ringing.

My mom reached out to grab it but my dad held her back.

"Son, remember, leave it on loudspeaker" he said. I nodded and picked the phone putting it on loudspeaker.

"Hello" I called out.

"Drew? "Jade called,  her voice soft and velvety.

"Hey Jade"

"You home safe" she asks.

"Yeah"

"Sorry for the way I acted- my mom's eyes widened a small gasp coming from her mouth which she covered immediately. Im sure she was imagining something along the lines of car sex -I mean leaving you was horrible especially with my idiot of a brother " she said.

Although I was gradually coming into terms that I like Jade, I'd really like to smack her head. Her words were innocent and yet so..... She could be innocent and yet so....

I mean I didn't have to look at my parents to know they were horror stricken at the thought of me having sex with somebody although my virginity went missing years ago. They probably thought we were having sex and her brother caught us. Nothing more.

For safety I glance back at my mom. Her eyes were wide as she whispered something along the lines of cherry boy while my father's jaws were dropped down,  his eyes bulging out as he stared at the phone.

The overdramatic-ness of my family took place as my mother began wiping away imaginary tears while my father patted her shoulder pulling her into a hug.

"Sure, your brother just talked with me" I said, glancing at my mom emphasizing on the brother.

"Ok"

"Did you get home alright?" I asked.

"Yeah, uhm-she was interrupted by a distinct calling if her name. - Drew I gotta go. I'll see you later" she said and then a beep.

I stared at the phone my heart swelling just by being able to talk to her and my mother launched into asking questions, none I bothered to answer.

And then I realized it.

I was happy and so was my family. My dad was no longer ignoring my existence and it seemed kind of strange to me.

"Excuse me. * I said a frown taking its place on my lips as I ran upstairs to my room. I sat on my bed feeling guilty for my happiness, when I stripped this family of their happiness.

I heard a small knock on my door. "Son, can i come in" my dad asked.

"Sure"

He opened the door and stared at me as I sat on my bed staring at nothing in particular.

"Your doing it again" he said. I turned to look at him.

"Doing what? " I asked. He sighed and walked closer sitting next to me.

"Do you think she'll be able to pass peacefully if your always blaming yourself for it? " he asked quietly. I looked at him with shock staring at his brown eyes. They held sadness and an unknown emotion.

"I'm sorry for ignoring you son. I wasn't the best after she passed on but how do you think she'll feel after she finds out her brother has been blaming himself. I should have given you advice. Losing someone isn't easy instead I ignored you" he said.

"Dad-"

"I'm not really good with words. None of us are. But you need to take a step forward. I guess. I've been reading way to much of your mother's sappy romance and this is the only way I can talk to you I mean they flew outta my head-" he let out a small oomph as I pulled him into a hug and began crying even though it wasn't so manly of me. He let out a deep chuckle his surprise fading away before patting my back.
