September 1st, 1991, Great Hall

As Caroline rose from the stool, she passed the hat back to McGonagall, whom was in a slight shock, this after all was the first time a Potter had been sorted into Slytherin. Making her way down towards the furthest table to the left she sat down next to Theodore who was also sorted in Slytherin.

"Welcome Potter" an older female said, she had long black hair and bland brown eyes, despite that she was pretty, like most noble heirs she had a ring on her finger displaying her family, the Farley crest.

"Thank you heir Farley" Caroline responded, earning a small nod from those around her, as if they expected her to be a brutish person - a Potter.

"Potter, Harry" McGonagall announced in a loud voice, allowing the small attention she had on her still to face the front stool again. Harry walked - pranced - up to the stool and before the hat could even be placed on top his head it called out 'Gryffindor!', electing an applause from three, fourths of the school.

He practically skipped over to the table before he plopped himself down next to the Weasley twins, the only people he knew personally. Soon enough the sorting continued, with Ronald, a Hermione, Dean, Neville heading to Gryffindor - a Ernie, Wayne, Justin, Laura heading to Hufflepuff - A Mandy, Padma, Lisa in Ravenclaw - and a Pancy, Daphne, Tracy and of course Blaise in Slytherin.

With the sorting finished, Dumbledore stood from his seat - throne - and tapped his glass, effectively quieting the hall, and gaining the attention. "Welcome!' he began, 'Welcome to a new year at Hogwarts! Before we begin our banquet, I would like to say a few words. And here they are: Nitwit! Blubber! Oddment! Tweak! Thank you" and he sat back down, everyone clapped and cheered despite not understanding what that just meant.

"He is a bit mad isn't he?" Blaise asked beside her, although he wasn't asking everyone in particular both Viola, Caroline and Theodore nodded in response.

"Did you know he just insulted all of us?" Asked Caroline, Farley, who introduced herself looked at her in question. "Yes he did, "Nitwit:" Ravenclaw is the house of witches and wizards of greater intelligence. As a rule, Rowena's children will think of those not selected for membership in their select group as "nitwits" or dummies.

"Blubber:" Blubber, in contrast, is a word used on playgrounds in the English speaking world for "fat." It is disparaging because children use it to be unkind to their peers who are heavier than the average kid and probably less athletic. Gryffindor, the jock or frat house, sees the "other" as less physically bold or courageous, for which condition, an eleven year-old would probably find "blubber" a handy signifier.

"Oddment:" This is a word from the world of sewing and fabrics. An oddment, if memory serves, is the remainder from the bolt of cloth, a remainder not large enough to be usable in making anything significant. Slytherins are lovers of "pure-blood" and, in this, "wholeness" or "integrity." The "other" to a Slytherin is any witch or wizard born with insufficient purity, an insufficiency that makes them an oddment of less, even no value.
