Chapter 10
First Year: holidays and godfathers
————————————————Yule Holidays, 1991
The moment Caroline stepped off the train and onto the platform, she stood straight and silently sought out her parents, or more her mother.
Spotting the older redhead, Caroline made her way over, luggage trailing behind her. Next to Lily Potter stood an older man, Black hair gleaming in the stations lights and Grey eyes seeking someone out.
This man was Sirius Black-Lupin, he was Caroline's Godfather and her closest confident. Sirius was the one who sat with her while her parents pampered her twin, Sirius was the one who made sure the elves fed her all the best foods, Sirius was the one who never doubted het.
And Caroline Potter adored Sirius Black-Lupin.
She watched with a smile as his eyes found hers, both pairs lighting up at seeing the other.
"Dory!" She heard the man shout, ignoring Lily as she tried to quiet him, rushing toward his god-daughter.
"Padfoot" Caroline whispered into his shoulder, sighing as Sirius nearly squeezed her to death. She had missed the rugged man, he was her lifeline as a child and going to Hogwarts, despite the great times she has had, hadn't been able to compare to her padfoot.
"Now tell me Dory, ' Sirius started, 'how was Hogwarts? Is it everything I've ever told you about?" His grin was unabashed as they slowly started walking over to the elder redhead. He had his arm over Caroline's shoulder as they made their way, clearly resisting the urge to just run anyway.
"It was just as you had described Padfoot, the entire place is magnificent"
Somehow his grin was able to get wider, and he released her from his captivity as they reached Lily, who by now was standing next to a bored looking Harry.
"Are you done fooling about now Sirius?" Lily asked, smile on her face and eyes squinted as she glanced at both her daughter and brother-in-law, she had after all never realised they were this close.
"Hush now Lily, she's been gone for months now! I simply must fool about once she's back" He turned to look at Harry, "Nice to see you once again Haz, how was school so far?"
The group slowly descended the platform, heading towards a close by chimney, Harry's bored look left as he retold all the stories he wouldn't tell his mother alone, without backup of his favourite uncle.
"Oh you won't believe what Neville got himself into-"

The next time Caroline saw her mother, was when dinner came, now her father was there to along with her Padfoot, Remus and her four year old cousin/God sister Aster.
At the head of the table sat James, as her head of house, and to his right was Lily. On her fathers other side sat her, as his heir, followed by Sirius and Aster with Remus next to Harry. They were all silently eating with small chatter from the youngest at the table. It was broken by James
"Harry, how is school so far? Up to any mischief yet?" This cause everyone to look up, some eyes gleaming in anticipation.
"Um not yet, I keep getting stopped by this stupid group of Slytherins, keep getting me in trouble" He paused, looking over to Caroline with a small smirk forming, "it's actually one of her friends, Draco Malfoy and Violet Ridomand or something"
"It's not Violet-"
"What was that child?"
She froze in her spot, head down as Sirius' hand rested on her own clenched one under the table, her mind running back to the conversation she had overheard this morning.
"nothing father"
"Well what have you been trying to do Harry dear? Why is it you keep getting in trouble?" Lily asked, sensing the very obvious tension at the table.
"Ya know, stuff like dad did in his stories, " Remus seemed to freeze from his fussing over his child "turn people's hair different colours, give people pigs noses and i've even gotten my own group now but we just can't seem to get anything done!"
"Cheer up lad, not even i could accomplish anything without getting caught till around third year, but how are you getting into trouble if you hadn't even pranked anyone?"
"The stupid bigoted Malfoy is why, his group keep catching me, and when i was visiting Hagrid he told that we had a dragon-"
"A dragon!" Lily almost screeched, standing from her seat and turning towards her son. "you didn't tell me he had a dragon! just that you'd been out of bed after curfew!"
"But mum-"
"No you do not-"
"I didn't do anything wro-"
"You insolent li-"
"Lily! Harry!"
They both silenced from their quarrel, with Harry silently thanking his father.
"I believe dinner is over, Remus, Sirius, I'll see you next week. Sorry about tonight. Girl, to your room and Harry off to yours"
They all left, with Sirius giving both children a hug and saying goodbye to the adults, Caroline went off towards her room, the smallest in the manor.
"Caroline" She'd heard her mother call out before she could reach the steps, "We decided to move your room while you weren't here, I'll get an elf to show you to it"
She had stood still as her mother left, it wasn't unexpected, but she was furious. Righteously so. She had spent her whole life inside that one room, and although going to Hogwarts was a dream come true, this change her family was going through was one of the worst things to happen to her. Ever.
"I-" Caroline began, being cut off immediately by her mother.
"Now, now darling. Off you hop. Cholly!" Lily called out, an elf popping right next to the older lady. "Show Caroline to her new room, she simply must get settled right back in"
And with a pop, the elf had Caroline in her new room. Her new empty room.
