"Father, this is ridiculous! There are plenty of other good men to marry Rosie off too, you cannot take Solomon from me!" Josephine had been going on like this for many hours now, and I feared that her rants would never end.

Perhaps that was a good thing-if her rants never ended, and her rants kept Father preoccupied, maybe I wouldn't be married off to Solomon Goode, and Josephine would get the life she's always wanted, and I would die all alone, like I've always wanted. See? I think that's a win-win, right? God knows I've never had a win-win in my life, so lets pray to the damned prick that this will be my first.

"You'll fine a perfectly able husband, Josephine, you'll all settle down and have a beautiful family together. There are plenty of other people here for you in Union, and I refuse to hear another word. Rosette needs to learn how to be a noble woman, and Solomon will fix her into perfect shape. That there is the end of our discussion. Argue all you want, I haven't a single part in this any longer."

He stayed true to his God-awful words, storming out of my bedroom chambers only a second after admonishing the both of us. Silence between Josie and I settled in, a silence that I knew would only be interrupted by an argument's beginning.

"I cannot believe this, Rose." She stated, clasping her hands behind her back and shaking her head.

"Believe what, exactly? Do you really think that this is my choice? That this is something I'm willingly doing?" I inquired, taking several strides forward to get in Josie's face. "I've never wanted to marry off to any man, and Solomon Goode makes no dent in my thoughts!"

"All I've ever wanted is to marry, is to have children, Rosie! And you've taken that chance away from me; who knows how much longer I'll have to wait now?!"

"Oh, do you really think I should care for whether you get to be practically sold off to some snotty old man, for whether you have children or not?! With all due respect, Josephine, I could care less. Can I not have one single moment be about me, about myself, and MY-yes, my issues?!" I shouted, and Josephine scoffed coldly. "What? What is it, what now?"
