"As the mall's lead custodial engineer," Martin, the older friend who seemed high that Josh had insisted on picking up, was now explaining everything to us about the mall. It was annoying, but he seemed like a funny guy. "I ensure that all retail establishments come equipped with the StoreSafe 250. This is the Cadillac of store gates."

I hope one day he realizes how nerdy that sounded. Well, wait, I'm a nerd, so that's not the right term I should be using. Hmm. Okay, I have half of a correction. At least I think I do. I hope, one day-if he survives tonight-that he realizes how much that sentence screams 'I have no life outside of my work and I also have no friends.' Was that harsh? Yes. Did I care? No. Plus, he can't read my fucking mind, so...I think I should be all good. I glanced over at Auntie M to see if we could share an eye roll, but she was staring at Martin like she was trying her best to pay attention. I didn't bother to lure her into an eye roll, so I just made our grip on one another's hands even tighter than before.

"...Deena is the target now," Josh said as I zoned back into this universe, and it pissed me off that he didn't bother to say 'Jen is also a target'. "So the killers will go after Deena's blood just like they did with Sam. And then we use that to lure them into the stores, and then..." He allowed his sentence to trail off, which I was very thankful for.

"Welcome to the clink motherfucker." Martin said, and finally, Auntie M and I were able to share an eye roll.

"The killers will be locked up, then it's only us left to finally kill Goode." I finally got to give my two cents about this, smiling a tad bit at the thought of revenge.

If Dad hasn't already killed Nick, of course.

"Okay, sure, awesome, but then what?" Deena asked, and I hated that she needed to have every step explained to her. I also understood. Fuck. "Like how do we take out Goode?"

"A-are y'all serious about this?" Martin stuttered, and Auntie Mia and I shared our second eye roll of the night.

"Serious as hell." Auntie M's voice didn't sound like Auntie M.
