"Ready?" Johnny asked as we stood with the others by the car. We were going to get the costumes, drop them off, and then stop at Johnny's house to get blankets and snacks before going to the drive-in movie.

I nodded and thanked him as he opened the door for me, sliding into the middle with Bobby on my left and Johnny driving as the other three got into the back. He had the top down which I hadn't driven in it yet with it down, so I was fairly excited.

He turned on the radio before pulling out of the parking lot. I smiled as he placed a hand on my leg like he always did and leaned my head onto his shoulder.

I sighed in content as the wind blew through my hair, my eyes heavy. After a few minutes, we pulled into the parking lot of the costume store. There were several cars in the lot, students from our school looking at all the different costumes.

We all got out of the car and made our way inside, there were hundreds of customs to pick from and other accessories like shoes, masks, face paint, wigs, and more.

I sent the boys to find the costumes as I went to find some face paint. I grabbed a black and a white tube of face paint before going to find the boys. Once I found them they all had a package in their hand.

"Hey. I got you a women's small, I wasn't sure what size you were." Johnny said as he handed me a packaged. It was the same as theirs, a skin-tight suit with a skeleton print on it, the only difference was this one was shorter and had more curvy sides.

"Thanks, Johnny. I picked up some face paint." I said as I showed the two bottles in my hand. "Perfect." He replied as we made our way to the cashier. I walked up first and placed my costume and the face paint on the counter because the boys were still messing around several feet behind, Tommy currently had a hot pink wig on while Dutch pretended to make out with a mannequin.

I looked to Johnny confused as he placed his costume on the counter as well and pulled out his wallet. "I can pay for mine, Johnny," I said. "I'll pay. I asked you to come so it's only fair." He replied. I wanted to argue, but embarrassingly, it would've been all of my lunch money for the next few weeks.

I thanked him as I grabbed the bag from the lady. "Tommy, c'mon!" I scolded as he now held a fairy wand as he pretended to cast spells on people that walked into the store who looked at him like he was crazy.

He quickly put the wand and wig away at my scolding and walked up to the cashier and placed it on the counter. "Where'd Dutch go?" I asked and not a second later he walked around the corner with a long red wig, a coconut bra over his shirt, and a grass skirt.

I couldn't help the loud laugh that left my mouth, everyone else turning to see what I was laughing at. "You look pretty, Dutch!" I said and he pretended to blush, fluttering his eyelids as he twirled a piece of hair around his finger. It took me and the others several minutes to stop laughing at him and tell him to put the stuff away and pay for his so we could leave, but eventually, we did, my stomach aching from laughter.

"I'm gonna get abs from laughing so hard," I said as the six of us got back into Johnny's car. "Me too," Johnny added. "You already have abs," I said as he pulled out of the parking lot.

"Well... I'll get more abs." He replied and I shook my head with a small laugh as I rested my head against his shoulder once more and allowed my eyes to close.

"We can just go to my house if you're too tired." He said as he made his way back to the school parking lot. "No, I've never been to a drive-in movie. I wanna go." I assured. "Okay, but if you get too tired we can always head home." He said. I nodded as I smiled up at him, placing a light kiss on his jaw before sitting back up and deciding to join the boys' conversation.

"Admit it, I looked super hot in that outfit," Dutch said. "I totally looked hotter than you in a wig!" Tommy said. "No way! I looked so good. Ophelia even said so!" Dutch replied, motioning to me. "Ophelia, who looked better in a wig? Me or Dutch." Tommy asked.

"Honestly, I'm gonna have to go with Dutch. But don't worry Tommy, your wand skills are out of this world." I responded and Dutch rubbed it in Tommy's face, but Tommy returned the bragging claiming he was a better wizard than him as I turned back around.

Once dropping the boys back off at school we made our way to Johnny's house and went inside. I grabbed a large blanket as Johnny tossed a few snacks into a bag and a couple of sodas. "Hey, Johnny?" I called.

"What's wrong?" He asked. "Nothing. I was just going to ask if we could stop by my place. I want to change out of my jeans." I replied. "You can just borrow a pair of my sweatpants." He said as the two of us went up to his room.

"Are you sure? I already have a pair of yours back home." I asked. "I have lots. Plus I like seeing you in my clothes." He said as he handed me a pair of black sweatpants. The blush was unavoidable, and I knew he said that on purpose as his smile widened at the sight of it.

"What?" He asked as I just stood there. "Turn around," I replied. He rolled his eyes but nonetheless turned. I quickly unbuttoned my jeans and slid them off before pulling up his. "Okay," I said as I tied the waistband of the pants and rolled up the bottoms.

I folded my jeans and put them in the back of Johnny's car along with the bag of snacks after we got in. The drive-in theater was only a five minute drive from his house. There were only a few other cars around when we arrived.

"There's still like a half hour until the movie starts, you should take a nap. I can wake you when the movie starts." Johnny said. "I don't want you to be bored," I said with a yawn.

"I won't be bored, Lia." He said. I contemplated for a few seconds, a little nervous to ask. "What is it?" He asked, noticing my hesitance. "Can you lay with me?" I asked.

"Of course." He responded as he laid down on the seats. I settled myself on top of him. He pulled the thick blanket over the two of us as I rested my head on his chest.

I tiredly smiled up at him as his fingers slowly drew up and down my slightly exposed back.  before allowing my eyes to close. It took merely seconds to fall asleep.

What felt like seconds later I awoke to soft shaking. I slowly opened my eyes to see I had moved one of my arms below my head and the other had a part of Johnny's t-shirt in its grip.

It was a habit I had ever since my father died. I wasn't sure why I did it, but whenever I would sleep on the couch with Daniel or with my mom I'd do it. Embarrassed, I quickly let go and stretched.

"How'd you sleep?" He asked. "Great. You're a good pillow." I mumbled as I pushed my face into the crook of his neck, exhaustion still lingering.

"Is the movie starting?" I asked after a moment of silence. "It started ten minutes ago." He replied. "Johnny! Why didn't you wake me up?" I asked as I sat up and he followed in suit.

"You looked so peaceful. I didn't want to wake you." He admitted. I grabbed two sodas out of the bag and handed one to him as we both opened them and took a drink.

After putting them in the cup holder I scooted my body so it was resting against Johnny's and wrapped the blanket around the two of us. Thankfully the actual movie hadn't started, just the previews. The words The Outsiders came onto the screen.

I smiled as I watched Johnny. I was glad we had become friends, or more. I wasn't really sure. We had cuddled and kissed a couple but he hadn't asked me. We were going to the Halloween dance together, but that didn't really mean we were together.

"What're you thinking about?" He asked, turning to meet my gaze. "Is this a date?" I blurted. "Do you want it to be a date?" He replied. "Maybe," I replied after a moment. "Okay. Then it is."
