All too well - Chapter 4

CHAPTER 4: First Goodbye

18 – Aera, 20 – Mujin

"What is it?" Mujin asked as he followed after her by the river. It was already late at night when Aera showed up in front of his house, he didn't even hesitate to follow her. They've been walking for a few minutes now but he just waited for her, finally, she turned around to face him. Only for him to see that she was already smiling so widely, he couldn't help but mirror her smile. "what?"

"I got in." He was still confused. Got in what?

"What do you mean?"

She breathed in and calmed herself. She, herself, can't believe what she's about to say. "I got the scholarship Mujin, I'll get to study in the university!" She jumped at him, wrapping her arms around him so abruptly that it almost made him lose his balance. Fortunately for them, Mujin has good reflexes, if not for that, they might have fallen on the river together.

She hugged him so tight, too tight. But still, there was a massive smile plastered on his face. "I told you so." He let his hand fall on her back as he melted in the hug. Her warmth was so comforting. He didn't want to let go.

Aera felt the same, finding it comforting to finally hug Mujin. She did a few more jumps before pulling away from the hug when she remembered something. "How 'bout you? You told me yesterday that you have something to say to me."

Suddenly, the smile on his face vanished, now she's worried. "I, uh," He averted his eyes from her as he let them fall on the ground, scared of her reaction. "I, I'm entering the military for my mandatory service."

Her heart fell. She became too accustomed to having Mujin around her. She'll probably miss him a lot. "When?" Her voice sounded weak and small. What will she do without him?

"In two months...." With that, she hugged him once again. It was noticeable how different it was from the hug beforehand. Mujin let his arms wrap around her tiny body once again, for some reason, this hug was tighter than the first one.

"What will Junghoon and I do without you?" she whispered in his chest, taking in his scent.

"uhh..." Junghoon that bastard, we promised to say it to her together. Mujin thought that maybe that was why Junghoon ran earlier when he saw Aera running in their direction. "About that, Junghoon's actually going too."

She pulled away once again. "what?"

"He was too scared to tell you, so we changed our minds yesterday. But I'm telling you now because we only have two months."

She sighed once again while Mujin only stared at her. He told himself two years ago to wait until she turns 18 before he confesses to her.

I guess I'll have to wait for another 2 years.

"Let's go," she said, but he just stood there, not knowing where she would take him. She took his hand and dragged him with her, eager to leave the place. "Let's go get Junghoon. We need to get the most out of this next two months."
