CHAPTER 7: First Dance

23 – Aera, 25 – Mujin

'Cause there we are again in the middle of the night
We're dancing 'round the kitchen in the refrigerator light
Down the stairs, I was there
I remember it all too well, yeah

Aera woke up on her apartment's bed when she heard someone's footsteps in the living room. She checked the time, 1:30 am. It was so late already, she sat up on her bed and rubbed her eyes. "Mujin, is that you?"

When she didn't hear any answer, she decided to go out of their bedroom, she instantly saw Mujin by the kitchen, drinking water. He left the refrigerator open, so she used it as her light to walk in the room. The sight of him alone brought a smile to her face. "Did I wake you up?"

"Did you just get home?" He simply nodded. Still smiling, she walked towards the switch. What was he doing in the dark?

Before she could even turn on the lights, Mujin had already walked across to her and held her shoulders to keep her in place. "Don't," he pulled her closer to his body, and when she was close enough, he held her against his chest. Her warmth has instantly comforted him.

He let his arm engulf her body, placing both his hands on her waist. He sighed, as usual, everything seemed to be alright as long as he has her in his arms. Aera melted in his arms, breathing in his scent. She didn't see him for the whole day.

"Hmm? Why not? It's so dark in here." Aera placed her hands around his neck, making it easier for Mujin to lean his forehead on hers. She found the gesture cute, so she gave up on her mission to turn on the lights. "Why, what happened?" She asked him softly, playing with the hairs behind his neck. The only thing that she can see from the light of their refrigerator were his closed eyes.

Mujin only shook his head lightly. "Nothing, I... I missed you." She smiled at his confession, Mujin is usually not the type to say these types of things. He started swaying and pulled her even closer. He caressed her cheek with his right hand, just savoring the moment, gently brushing his forehead to hers.

Aera knew something was up, but she didn't want to force him to explain more than he's comfortable of.

She giggled when she realized that they were dancing in the kitchen without any music at all. Mujin opened his eyes upon hearing this sweet sound as he gazed to her eyes with an unfamiliar look. He tilted his head and kissed her softly, as gently as he could. He kept it short, quickly pulling away as he let his thumb run over her lower lip. "Don't leave me,"

Aera caressed her boyfriend's left cheek too, staring into his eyes, wanting so badly to know what that look meant. What's going through your mind, Mujin? "Hmm.. why would I?"

Mujin only stared at her, his eyes getting a little damped, letting himself be vulnerable with her. "Yeah..." he smiled faintly, "You wouldn't, right?" he whispered as if convincing himself. "You wouldn't." Then he kissed her again.

Unbeknownst to her, Mujin's face was full of bruises. He knew how devasted she would be if she saw his face. That's why he stayed out late. He just got home from the brawl, and he won. He's going to be an official member of Dongcheon from now on, and though he's been working so hard for this day to come, he didn't know why he felt more scared than happy. He feared what was about to come, of what he was about to become. He feared losing her, so he held her close and kissed her as much as he could.
