CHAPTER 6: First Fight

22 – Aera, 24 – Mujin

"What's this?" Aera asked, letting her fingers fall on the bruise on Mujin's face. "Mujin, have you really gone crazy? Do you want to follow your uncle after just two months of his death?" He just got home today. She has been waiting for him to come home, only to see him in this state.

He just pushed her hand off of his face, dodging her hands. "Leave me alone."

"Your uncle wouldn't be pleased if he sees what you're doing to yourself!" She tried to reason with him, standing in his way to keep him from walking away. Mujin only sighed, calming himself before going around her figure to walk past her and enter his room. "Mujin!"

He stopped in his tracks, closing his eyes in an attempt to keep himself from lashing out. He turned around to face her and mumbled the next words as gently as he could. He knew his monsters, and he didn't want them to run loose. Not on her. "Leave, Aera. Please."

"I won't leave if you won't te—"

"I said leave!" The look in his eyes scared her. She had never seen him like this. Mujin only shook his head, averting his gaze from Aera, regretting what he had just done. But after a few seconds, he proceeded on walking to his room, banging the door behind him.

Going back to her house, Aera was once again welcomed by her mother. She looked at her daughter with worry-filled eyes. "There are other men out there, Aera. They study. Some even have jobs. Why are you settling with Mujin?"

She looked her mom in the eye. "Mujin's a good person, mom, you know that." Then she hugged her, crying. Her mother only nodded. Yes, she saw how Mujin treated her daughter before, and she knew that he was good to her daughter, but for the past two months, she also witnessed how her daughter has been going through so much.

"Mom, I love him."

"I loved your father too, Aera." Her mother drew comforting circles on her back. "Love seems fun at first, feeling giddy, extremely happy. But you have to know, love should also give you peace of mind." She caressed her daughter's hair.

"He has always been there for me. He's just going through a hard time right now. I can wait for him to come around." She told her mother, though she wasn't sure who she was convincing, her mother or herself?

Aera's mom caressed her daughter's hair. "I trust you. You decide when enough is enough, okay? I don't want you spending most of your youth crying and trying to fix a man." Something that her mom has tried to do, but there was still nothing she could do in the end. She doesn't want her daughter to experience the same thing.

Aera just nodded.

After another two months, Mujin got a lot better. He apologized for his actions for the past four months to her, and Aera accepted the apology of the man she loves. Everything was back to normal again, or so she thought.
