Emily walked into the pub and smelt the stale beer. She figured it must be fused into the exposed wooden floor and in the fabric of the heavy drapes which hung either side of the windows. A little old lady sat in a corner reading her book with a glass of wine on a small table. Tourists from Japan gathered at one end of the dark wooden bar, while at the other end stood Scott, in the gloom.
