Chapter 3 We Become What We Behold

"So what is this 'We Become What We Behold'?" Ozpin was curious, maybe he could use this information back on Remnant.

"Alright so 'We Become What We Behold' is a game created by a person called Nicky Case which shows how society is shaped by the media. And the game is also very accurate to real life I should add."

"What do you mean by how society is shaped by the media?" Ruby asked innocently.

"I'm talking about how the media manipulates people into believing something that isn't true or making it seem worse than it really is." Some people in the room didn't believe that because they're too naive.

"So basically how the news makes the White Fang look like monsters?" Sienna asked. Maybe this information could be useful and would help in making the humans understand that the faunus weren't bad. Adam and Ilia were thinking along the same lines.

"Yes and no. That is mostly based on miscommunication, distrust, peer pressure, and also mistakes on your part."

"Mistakes on our part?! What did we ever do?!" Adam asked outraged, Sienna and Ilia were also mad. Everyone else in the room was about to start listing all of those mistakes but Kamil beat them to it.

"Well, the news says that your protests turn violent most of the time, which is true. And that makes you seem like the bad guys. So what you should do is adjust to the situation and make peaceful protests so that the public opinion of you gets better. That would be the smart thing to do, unfortunately, you don't do that, instead, you make the protests more violent which proves what the media says about you and makes you seem even worse. You've dug yourselves in this cycle where every protest makes you look more and more evil and lowers the public opinion of the White Fang which in turn lowers the opinion of faunus overall. Ghira had the right idea, the way he was doing things would have made your situation much more favorable." Kamil explained coldly. He wasn't going to sugarcoat what they did wrong, he'd give them the cold, harsh truth. The Belladonna family were surprised and sent him grateful looks.

"Well, his way wasn't working!" Adam and Sienna bellowed simultaneously.

"Actually it was. Racism and fear of faunus has increased more over the past five years since Ghira stepped down as the leader of the White Fang." Ironwood decided to intervene.

"Yup, you see the reason why you've been failing Sienna is because you want the racism to stop quickly but that's not how it works. Stopping racism on such a big scale is a lengthy process that can take years or even decades but over time it will work. Also, I really want you to listen to this and take it to heart. You can't stop racism completely, there will always be humans who are racist against faunus just like there will always be faunus who are racist against humans. Ghira was doing exactly what he should have to stop the hate and it would have worked eventually but by you taking over and doing what you did you've undone all the work he put in and wasted it." This made everyone think, especially the representatives of the White Fang. Even Adam was listening for once not completely blinded by his hate for humans.

"But I'm not here to debate ethics, I'm here to hopefully help you make better decisions once I send you back to Remnant. So without further ado, I present to you 'We Become What We Behold'." Kamil said before the screen turned back on.

The teachers were nodding. "Wise words. Who is that Marshall fellow?" Port asked.

"Herbert Marshall McLuhan CC was a Canadian philosopher, whose work is among the cornerstones of the study of media theory." Kamil read what he found on Wikipedia.
