Rique
I press my forehead against my mate's, breathing her in. My wolf paces, fur spiking along his back, canines bared in a permanent scowl. Adrenaline and rage pulse through him, into me, into Miranda. She takes it, smoothes it out, returns it with a single-minded purpose.
Tonight we rescue Mama. Diosa. It's long overdue. Too long. I can't believe that it's almost over. We are barely ready, but my sweet bruja has been working, late into the night, to prepare Mama's final potion. Mi bruja is nervous about her own mother coming to meet me, and we wanted to do this, first.
"Ready, sweetheart?" Miranda brushes her lips over mine sweetly.
"Si, Bella." I let her go and walk to my bike. Miranda slides on behind me and wraps her arms around my waist. I squeeze her hands once, tightly, before tucking her slim fingers under my shirt.
I ride into the dark desert with my female plastered to my back. Miranda's magic skitters along the bond. She's as excited as I am. On her back is her backpack of bruja tricks. Everything is ready to go. Carmichael is taking care of his business. Our luna and omega are tucked away safely in Caluna with our luna's new alpha female and Nico, Carm's hermanito. Miranda and I will sneak into Lobo, to Mama's house, and set her free from the bond. We'll be back to the bar before anyone even knows Mama is missing.
This is the night.
My phone buzzes, vibrating in my pocket. I growl, the rumble in my chest vibrating through my limbs, almost overpowering the hum of my bike. I don't want to answer it. I don't want to put this off for even a few minutes.
The pack knows not to call me. They know how important this night is for me. I've been working toward this for years. I don't want to stop for anything, but what if it's Mama?
I pull over abruptly. "Rique?" Miranda questions me, her minty eyes shining with concern under her helmet.
I yank out my phone just as it buzzes again. My heart sinks to my toes. "Chale," I breathe as I hit the answer button.
"Mi padre tiene mis amores."
It's like being doused in ice water. "Carm," I croak.
"He's taken them back to Lobo. Por favor, Rique. I..."
"Miranda and I are on our way," I snap.
"Run with me, Beta."
"Sí, Alpha."
I drop my phone to the desert floor and kick off my boots. My eyes meet Miranda's. She is calm, cool, and collected. My heart is aching. Mama. But... our luna and our omega have been stolen.
"Miranda..."
"Go, my love."
I kiss her, a brutish, dominant kiss that steals her breath and leaves her swaying. I drop my jacket to the desert floor and shift to paws.
"I love you. Stay here, bella. Be safe," I plead with her.
I can feel my wolf call out to his alpha. Howls split the air as my paws churn through the dirt. My heart beats in time with the pounding of my paws. Lobo is at war tonight.

Miranda
My soon-to-be-legally-shackled-to-me hubby is going to be fine. Just peachy. When don't wolves war and fight with each other? He grew up in this harsh place, with a sadistic father and uncles beating on him. He's tough. He'll be fine.
