20- Tony

Jaime was quite possibly the worst wingman ever, subtlety apparently not being in his vocabulary. He did, however, find out that Vic and Becca were just friends. He had asked Vic when the rest of us had gone to show Becca's sister the new park (that we were, technically, way too old for). According to Jaime, Vic went 'a darker shade of red than the base guitar' that had been in the corner, but had agreed they were just mates.

Anyway, this had definitely put my doubts to rest, so I decided it was time to finally do it. Ask Becca to Homecoming. Ah.

I was scared and nervous and really excited and really, really needed to calm down.

Ahh.

It had taken me all night and the entire morning to properly get myself together and by that time it was a sunday lunch. Jaime suggested Taco Bell again, to be met with a chorus of groans; before Mike offered to drive us down to the beach for an afternoon there.

"Tony, get the sunscreen from my room?" Vic had shouted from downstairs.

"Sure. Has Jaime got the swimming shorts?"

"No clue, JAIME?"

"Quit shouting!" Shouted Becca.

Most of the conversations were like this until we were in the car. Then it was stupid game, like charades and I spy, that were really fun. Becca's were the best, but Martha's were really hard.

"I spy," Becca began. "with my little eye, something beginning with... E."

"Elephant." Said Jaime.

"No..."

"Enchiladas?" He guessed again.

"Food? What?" Asked Mike, suddenly paying attention.

"Entertainment," Mike guessed. "nope, there's none of that here."

"Rudeness," Vic stated

"Enemy?"

Lots of guesses were asked, including: Empty stomach, Evil Vic (guessed by Martha), Irritating Tony (guessed by Jaime, English spelling not always being his strong point) and Everything (guessed by me). But in the end Mike guessed it- Emo Tone. Why me?

Becca was laughing at my reaction so she didn't realize, one, that we had arrived and, two I was about to tickle her.

I ended up with a nose bleed...

---

"Hey, Becca," I whispered as I jumped up behind her. She yelled and leapt away, before running towards the sea. She was in a Bikini and I was in swimwear as well. I ran after her, sand under foot. I slipped twice before I made it to the waters edge. I took one look behind me and saw Jaime and Mike playing frisbee with Martha and Vic sitting with sunglasses on, wearing an unreadable expression.

"You'll never catch me!" Becca screamed and swam as quickly as she could, which was fast. Unfortunately for her, I used to do competition swimming and so I had no doubt I could get to her.

"Here I come," I said, running into the shallow waves. I swam up to her soon enough just as the water got deeper than my chest and grabbed her by her waist. She squealed and splashed water behind her that missed me by meters. When I laughed she seem to just get more mocking-annoyed and tried to get out of my grip. "Becca, Bec." The sea was sploshing and simmering around us as we both had to tread water to stay afloat. I made sure I still had a good grip on Becca as I talked with the waves. "Becca, quit fighting me. I swear if you drown on me, I'll kill you."

"Alright, alright." Her hair was spread out and stuck to her back because of the water, as we bobbed in motion with the sea. The dark brown hair smelt salty and soapy. I had an odd desire to kiss the back of her hair...

Ahhh...

With a deep breath, I finally went for it, "Becca, can I ask you, er, something?"

"Sure, little man." I coughed allegedly.

"Er, 1, I am a turtle, not a man. 2nd, I'm taller than you and third, will you come to homecoming with me?"

"You know you're not really a turt-" she began to say. "Homecoming?"

I really didn't know what to do, so I jumped backward, letting Becca go and swam, under the water, back to the shore.

Vic looked over his glasses at me with an odd look on his face while I made my way up the beach and in the background I could hear faint splashing and Jaime-like giggles. Somehow, in the time it had taken Becca to swim back to shore, I had convinced myself that she would reject me. My thought were a constant flow of- Why would she even like me? Shut up. Be a man. It's just a dance, calm down. What do you even care for? Maybe you should run away, never come back and change your name to Fredrick-

"Turtle!"Becca shouted, still from quite a distance away. "CESAR ANTONIO PERRY SOTO! Do not ignore me!" I turned slowly, bracing myself (slightly surprised she knew all my birth names). "YES!"
