I wake on Monday feeling exhausted. Though Skye would beg to differ, this has been the worst weekend ever. Samantha has been causing me pain and distress all weekend. Skye's been trying to help me as always but...the closer I am to him, the more Samantha pushes me towards him.

"Good morning darling" the hellish voice of Samantha fills my head.

I ignore her and try remember everything I can about mentors. Every newly turned vampire (NTV) has a mentor for their first year as a vampire. A mentor is the spirit of a dead vampire which inhabits your head and gives you advice on how to survive vampire life. Even though most NTVs have the vamp who turned them looking out for them, the mentors are there in case something should happen and you find yourself alone. Unfortunately, these mentors have the power to mess with the pain centers in your head. This can be useful when you're asleep and about to be attacked by vampire slayers but can also be used to torture young vampires. Most mentors are kind, wise and thoughtful spirits that try to help the NTVs. Samantha is not like most mentors.

When I first turned, she tried to make me hunt down innocent creatures and humans. I fought against her and somehow, with Skye's help, I managed to shut her up and lock her away in a secluded part of my head. For some reason, now she's back and hell-bent on trying to make me be with Skye. Maybe his confession powered her and gave her the ability to try to break free. Then the sight of his abs on Saturday must have been what gave her the last ounce of power she needed. Damn it.

"Come on," Samantha taunts "time for school"

"Shut. Up." I command her and surprisingly, she does.

Walking through the gates, I head for my locker, keeping my head down and hiding behind my hair. As I walk I start to hear the familiar sound of Stella's gang chatting behind me. I walk faster. Head down. Hair acting as my shield. Suddenly, I collide into a solid wall of human flesh. Because of my strength, the wall falls back onto the floor.
"I..I'm so sorry" I stutter quietly, looking down at my victim. It's Alex. Shit. Holy shit.
"Wow, what are you made of? Bricks?" He chuckles, pulling himself up "where you going in such a hurry?"
I try to look up at him but.......

"Ahhhhhhh!" A scream escapes me as a shooting, hell-born pain takes over my head. Howling in pain, I crash to the floor. My vision blurs. Sounds morph into a murmur. The last thing I take in is somebody picking me up and calling my name gently.

I'm running through the woods. Screams are coming from ahead and I am going in their direction. Thorns scratch my skin, vines trip me and get caught in my hair. I run.....run as fast as I can. I don't know why but I run. I run until I reach a clearing where a sight chills my soul.

It's Alex and Skye. They're tied with vines to a tree. A pack of wolves surrounds them. No. Not wolves - werewolves. They could kill Skye and could definitely destroy Alex in a matter of seconds. A voice fills the clearing....Samantha.

"You only have enough time to save one. Hurry or you'll lose both." She booms.
"Why do you do this? Why do you make me choose when it's clear what you want for me anyway?" I scream at the voice.

Suddenly, out of nowhere, an apparition appears. Even though I never knew what she looked like, I immediately know this vampire in front of me is Samantha. Blond hair curling perfectly down her back, blue eyes piercing your soul, pale and flawless skin. This time, the voice has a body.
"I want you to see the truth for yourself," she cackles, sinisterly "I want you to understand"
"Well forget it!" I scream at her "I don't listen to monsters!"
Samantha's eyes glisten and her mouth forms an evil grin "wrong answer"

With a flick of her wrist, the wolves attack.

I start to run toward the tree but a bright light stops me. A gentle voice calls to me.
"Lilly....." It whispers "wake up..."
And like that, it's all gone.
