"Calum?", I heard Mary call my name as she opened the front door and made her way into the house.
"I'm in here!" I called back from inside the sitting room while trying to find something decent on the television.

Mary appeared in the door of the messy room and sighed, causing me to look up at my foster mother.
My eyes took in her worn out appearance. Her hazel coloured hair stuck up, almost defying gravity, the black marks under her eyes looked more prominent than usual and her work uniform was wrinkled and worn on her slumped over body. She looked a right mess.
My eyes couldn't help but also notice the worn out black suitcase she held in her hand, it seemed to be weighing her down. It definitely didn't belong to us, I would've recognised it.

I sent her a questioning look and asked, "whats with the bag?"

"Calum," she began, "you were 14 when i started to foster you. That was almost 3 years ago, which is quite a long time, you know?" She had a sincere look in her eyes as she spoke. I slowly nodded, not knowing where this big speech was going. She continued,
"and this morning i got a very sudden call from your social worker asking if I had an extra room," she paused, but when I didn't say anything she continued, "and I do so, I said yes, and then she told me about a boy, who was in need of some emergency placement and that I was the perfect place for him, and well i couldn't decline, could I?" She paused again, and I didn't say anything again. So she continued again. "And well so I guess I'm rambling a bit but -eh, meet you're new foster brother, Michael?"
