Chapter six - Scorpion v.s. Sub-Zero

The walk back was quiet, Kimberly was trying to forget the horrible events witnessed not half hour ago. Li remained silent, partly because he was processing the last few days, but mostly because he had no idea on what to say or how to comfort a girl he barley knew. After stopping off at Kimberly's so she could shower and grab her clothes and toiletries. Her Dad wasn't home so there was no awkward questions. A short walk later and the pair arrived at the apartment. Li showed Kimberly to his room, ignoring the puzzled yet proud expression on Rileys face. 

"Thank you again letting me stay here Li, I just couldn't ne alone" she said giving Li a sweet smile. She looked around the bedroom and wasn't at all surprised that it was immaculately clean, his books and other belongings tucked away tidily in there rightful places.

"It's fine" he replied

"I'm going to try get some sleep now"

"Okay, I will check in on you later" He shut the door and left her alone to sleep. He turned around and bumped into the lurking Riley, a huge grin painted across his face.

"Nicely played Li, got her back on the first date" He winked, smiley away at Li's disapproving glare. The two made their way to the kitchen. "What's going on? you have that look on your face, you know,the one as if someone just told you there is no fortune cookies left"

"That's racist, no, i have had the most extreme day"

"I'd say, the hospital hottie in your bed right now" He let out a whistle and thumped Li on the arm. "you dog you" 

"Seriously stop that" His face becoming serious. He filled Riley in everything from his research to the decapitated man in the alley. Riley listened intently, his mouth gaping at the gory discription. 

"Where were you when she was getting dressed?" Riley joked."Sorry, so what do we do now?"

"I don't know Ri, i just don't know"

Afternoon soon turned to evening, the dying embers of the sun was soon replaced by the moons pale glow. Li had woke Kimberly up and the three sat at the kitchen table eating dinner. Riley and Li desperately wanted to ask Kimberly how she was or just speak about what happened earlier, but both were scared of how she would respond. She had that kind of discomforting affect that put most people off speaking to her if they knew what was good for them. It was as though she could sense their urge to talk so she was the one to break the silence.

"So, Li, i found these tissues under your bed, they have turned yellow, you should think about throwing them out. You do know what they say right, to much of that will make you blind" She said with a smile. Li was eating at the the time and failed to swallow properly and ended up coughing his food out. Riley on the other hand just burst out laughing. Li was glowing his usual shade of red now so Kimberly decided to end the joke. "Only joking, your a neat freak so you probably binned them instantly after, ay. Anyway you said you would explain everything at the hospital" She said quite business like. 

"Yes i did" He said regaining his composure "so here it goes" Li filled her in on the Raiden and the fate of the world resting on the three of them speech. "And that when I see Kira  and Kobra at the hospital... Well heard them while I hid" He said slightly embarrassed. 

"So that's why you were with the old lady then" She chuckled. This was the first time he had seen her smile since the old lady confusion. 

"Yes, uhum" He cleared his throat. " When i see the blood and the ripped cover I thought the worst" He looked at her asking the question with his eyes.

"Oh that, that was just from my wound, my stitching split"

"Oh right, well anyway you know the rest, we were ambushed by Kira"
