"UPSTAIRS TO THE LEFT, BOYS." Ada guided the movers as they entered her new home, arms full of boxes and furniture. Yelena was in the living room with her new little friend Karl, unboxing his toys. The boy was very excited to show them off to the woman who indulged him, fascinated with his wooden train and his stuffed bear.
Ada was immensely grateful for her own newfound friendship with the brunette woman, as Yelena had not only helped her find the furniture she needed, but also helped her find movers through her contacts that somehow magically managed to come through the very same day.
The young mother found it slightly odd how that was even possible; the speed at which the men came was comparable to them having a gun to their heads, but she kept her concerns to herself. Ada suspected that Yelena was a woman of influence, although she had no idea of its true extent.
As the movers finished moving the Thorne's belongings, Ada pulled the one in charge aside to discuss the matter of payment. The man frowned at her words, shooting a look to the woman in the living room.
"It's been taken care of, Mrs. Thorne."
"Excuse me?" Ada frowned, following his regard to the woman who got up from her kneeling position, sweetly caressing Karl's hair.
"Thank you, Moishe," Yelena said with a grateful smile as she joined the adults, leaving Karl to play with his toys in the other room. "I really appreciate you coming on such a short notice. Tell your bubbe and saba that I'll send by some bread from the bakery, as a gift."
"Oh, you don't have to, Miss." Moishe seemed nervous, but still looked into the woman's eyes with the highest of respect. "After everything your brother did for my family, this is the least we could do."
"Please, Moishe. It would be my pleasure."
The man simply nodded, not in a position to argue with the finality in the woman's tone. He bid the ladies goodbye and joined the rest of his men outside as they departed from the Thorne home.
"You know I could have paid for it, right?"
"Consider it a housewarming gift," Yelena said simply her red lips parting in a soft smile. Ada shot her a look, prompting her new friend to shrug and turn on her feet returning to the living room to play with Karl. "They owed me a favour anyways."
