I called Josh around noon the next day, asking him if he was able to do dinner. "My family came up yesterday, and when they asked me if I was dating, I said maybe we could have dinner together. Don't worry, it's nothing big, just dinner." He agrees, wholeheartedly , so I give my family the news. Mom is still ecstatic about me having a boyfriend, but I calm her down, by saying,"Who wants to see the studio?" They're already out the door, waiting politely. Packing into my car once again, I turn on some Classic Rock. Unfortunately, I have to turn it down, because Kaylee's berating me. "Do you, like, make music in the studio? Like a recording studio?" I lick my lips. "Yep. In fact, I have an album that's almost finished. You're gonna buy it, right?" She looks to dad. He laughs, saying, "Yes, of course we'll buy it." We get to the studio, just as Fosters leaving. "Wait, David!" I yell, and he turns. "Carolyn! I didn't have you scheduled today, did I?" Shaking my head, I ask,"No, but do you have a little time? My family wants to see the studio." He goes,"Anything for my favorite female baritone!" Opening the door, Foster gives the family a grand tour. The whole time, their eyes are wide. They'd never been in a recording studio before. We all thank David, then head back to my apartment to get ready for dinner. I know they have one pair of nice clothes, for we would always pack one presentable outfit when traveling. My dad has on slacks and a dress shirt, my mom's wearing a dress, but it took a tremendous amount of yelling to get my sister into a skirt. Glancing at the clock, I almost freak. It's six twenty-five! I told Josh to meet us in front of Chateaubriand-a fancy French restaurant-at seven. "Come on guys, we need to go." I say, lifting my bag. They trail after me, to the car, then, out onto the sidewalk. My mom gasps. "Omigosh, look. It's Josh Groban. Why aren't you having a heart attack?" I swallow, and stand next to Josh. "Guys, I would like you to meet my boyfriend. Josh Groban." Everyone looks as if they're about to faint. Josh smiles. "It's nice to meet you guys, finally. I've heard a lot about you. So, you're from Texas?" We proceed into the restaurant. Soon as we're seated, my dad-being the overprotective father he is-begins throwing questions at Josh, left and right. After ordering, Josh excuses himself to the restroom. "Guys, first of all, you can't keep asking so many things. Second of all, you can't tell anyone. It hasn't become public yet." Dad apologizes, and each of them promises not to tell. Josh comes back as we're ordering a bottle of wine. Chardonnay, this time. He pockets his cellphone, seeming a bit agitated. I ask him with my eyes, but he looks away. I wonder what happened. Once we're done eating, my dad asks for the check. When it gets to us, Josh intercepts it, with an, "I got it.", making my father smile. Afterward, I inquire as we're going back to our cars, to Josh,"What was all that about? Why'd you seem so agitated?" He dismisses it. "Just an old acquaintance calling to talk about...something." I'd heard this story in books and on TV before. Would Josh really cheat on me?
