I woke up to a bed without Dolores. I got up and looked around the room, but to no avail. I got up and headed out the door. Where was she? I went downstairs to see Julieta and Mirabel in the kitchen. They must know where she is.

“Hey, have either of you seen Dolores by chance?” I asked.

They both nodded no. I sighed and thanked them. If she isn’t at the house, where could she be? That’s when I remembered the cafe. She must be there! I left the house and ran to the cafe. That’s when I found Dolores. Except it looked like she was talking to someone. She was smiling and laughing a bit so I thought it must’ve been Camilo. I walked in and that’s when I saw Dolores look at me. Her gleeful expression soon faded into a confused face. I started getting a little nervous, but I brushed it off. I went up to the table.

“Hey, Dolores! What are you and-“ I stopped.

It wasn’t Camilo as I originally thought. Rather, it was Mariano. I took a step back.

“Y/N.” Dolores got up. “It’s not what it looks like. I promise.”

“You’re with Mariano?”

“Yeah, but we were just talking.”

“You went to talk to him early in the morning?”

Mariano got up.

“Y/N, she didn’t do anything. We were just talking about m-“

“I don’t want to hear it, Mariano.”

I walked away and went back home. I saw my sisters on the table and I just ran up to my room. I saw Carlos waving at me before I slammed the door shut. I started tearing up and laid in bed. After a couple of minutes of silently crying my eyes out, I heard knocking on my door.

“Hey, Y/N, are you alright?” Ana said.

“I’m fine.” I lied.

“Stop lying niña.” Angelica opened the door. “What’s wrong?”

“I saw D-Dolores with Mariano at the c-cafe.”

Angelica and Ana looked at each other then back at me. They both came to hug me. Carlos popped out of the door then ran to hug me, holding his gator plushie.

“There, there.” Ana said.

“Maybe it’s not what you think.” Angelica said.

“You sound like Dolores.”

She took a step back and looked at me.

“What?”

“Dolores said it’s not what it looks like.”

“Did-did Mariano say anything?” Ana said, pulling away.

“Yeah, how did you know?”

They both smacked their forehead and looked at me. Carlos stepped back as well.

“They were planning for Mariano’s wedding, Y/N.” Angelica said.

I sat there in my bed, dumbfounded. Is that what Mariano was trying to tell me?

“Oh.” I said.

That felt like that was the only thing that I could muster up. I got up and told them I’ll be back. I ran downstairs and out the door. I went back to the cafe, but Mariano and Dolores weren’t there. Is she back at the house? I went to her house and after asking everyone where she was at, I left the house empty handed. Camilo came out of the door, trying not to seek attention from the other family members.

“You might want to check at the park, Y/N.” He said.

That’s right! The park, how could I forget? I thanked him and ran to the park. I started slowing down as I saw Dolores looking upset and sitting on a bench. Did I make her feel this way? I walked up to her.

“Hey.” I nervously said. She didn’t look up.

“Look, I’m sorry for jumping to conclusions. It’s just, he was your ex and you left early in the morning and-“

“I left because I heard Mariano getting married and I didn’t want to wake you up.” She looked up at me finally.

“You looked so precious to wake up.”

I saw tears filling in her eyes and soon, I felt mine filling up too. She left because she cared. I broke down in tears. I fell to my knees and pleaded her to forgive me. She lifted me up and hugged me tightly.

“I don’t need to forgive you because you did nothing wrong, amor.” Dolores said.

Her words, her soft, tender words, felt so comforting to hear. She sat me down and told me how she heard everything that was happening. I felt embarrassed and apologized even more. After a while of talking it out, we headed back to her house. It felt relieving to have her back. That’s when we saw everyone at the door.

“Ay, Dolores!” Pepa shouted, hugging Dolores tightly. “C’mon, mi niña, let’s get you ready. You too, Y/N.

She pulled me and Dolores to Dolores’ room and left us to change. We both smiled at each other while she gave me a beautiful long orange-red dress to match with her. We took a couple minutes getting ready, then headed downstairs and out the door with the rest of the family. I saw Camilo hanging with some boy wearing matching outfits as him, then Dolores greatly grabbed my face and gave me a peck on the lips. I smiled.

As we got to the town center, a huge fountain nearby, we sat at the tables all around the stage where the bride and groom will speak and light their candles. We started small talk for a some time now, then we heard the priest coming up and talking about Mariano, the groom, and the bride. That’s when I started to wonder. Who was he getting married to? I looked around and immediately realized who it was. I looked back at the priest.

“Please congratulate the groom and bride, Mariano and Luisa!”

Everyone applauded while Mariano and Luisa started walking up the stairs, while I was completely in shock. I was happy for them, truly, but it just never crossed my mind that Luisa showed any interest in him. Still, I applauded for them and after the whole candle burning ceremony, I congratulated her and we had a whole party that lasted till midnight.

The party had some alcohol for the adults, so most were knocked out or have already left. The only one’s left were some townspeople dancing around and half of the Madrigals, some of them went to sleep. I walked to Dolores, who was sitting at a table nearby.

“Hey, pretty girl.” I teased. “How about you and me dance?”

“I’d love to, amor.”

She got up and we headed to where the rest of the people were dancing. We held hands and I grabbed her waist and we danced the night away. Literally.

I woke up to me laying in Dolores’ bed, her right beside me. I lifted up the sheets only to see me and Dolores fully naked. I quickly grabbed the sheets and hid under them.
