I have been there
In that church
Where the preacher stands up In front
And spouts out hatred
And bigotry
And acts like he is the judge of you
Like he has some mighty power
To tell who goes to heaven
Who goes the hellI have been there
On my knees
Pleading with God
To make me righteous
To take these broken pieces
And to make them into something whole
Make me into someone new
Someone pure
Someone that pleases himI have been there
With the family
Who feels more like strangers
Than actual relatives
The one who treats you like the odd one out
The stain on their conscience
A laughing stock
To be picked on
and shouted over in conversationYes I have been there
Participating in this ruthless game called life
Living as me
In this mixed up world
Where different equals wrong
Yes I am here existing
despite everyone who has told me not toSo go
Be you
And know that when this world
Tries to beat you into the ground
You will prevail
Because I have been there
And I have seen the impossible come true
At the finger tips of people who
This world tried to erase
