Chapter 17: How Could This Happen?

Johnny made it home and sighed in frustration as Marcus came out to see him alone.

"Johnny?" Marcus questioned.

"Yeah?" Johnny said, his voice laced with a bit of anger.

"What happened? Where's Jamie?" Marcus asked.

Johnny looked at him then back at the wheel.

"She's back home and it's not Redshore," Johnny answered.

"What do you mean?" Marcus asked.

"She's from a different universe and she looks completely different. The way we saw her isn't her real form. She never bothered to tell me the truth," Johnny replied.

Marcus didn't know how to react since he never heard of anything like this, but he knew his son wouldn't lie about something outrageous as this.

"Is that all she lied about?" Marcus asked.

"I don't know. For all I know, yes. But still," Johnny answered.

"Maybe she wanted to tell you, but didn't know how," Marcus suggested.

"I think she was about to until those bears she stopped exposed her," Johnny said, getting out of the car, then added, "But she had two months to tell me."

"And how long did it take you to tell me about that singing contest you were a part of?" Marcus remarked.

That seemed to get Johnny thinking.

"Listen, son. When you told me about you wanting to be a singer, I didn't approve. But when I saw you singing on TV, I felt so proud to tell everyone that you're my son. So while you are upset about what happened, I think Jamie meant well; she just didn't know what to do," Marcus explained, putting a hand on his shoulder.

Johnny sighed and said, "I don't know, Dad. When the singing contest was going on, I didn't want to tell you. How is it the same as what she did?"

"We were both upset to learn the truth, but like I did, you'll accept her," Marcus said.

Marcus went inside as Johnny thought about what his dad told him. He eventually went inside and in his room before looking at Jamie's contact. He was about to call her when a text came in on his phone.

"Hey, Johnny. It's Maddie. I saw what happened and know you have questions. Tomorrow, have everyone meet in the auditorium and I will explain everything. I promise."

Johnny didn't know what to think with that either since Maddie also lied about who she was. So he responded to her text.

"Why should I trust you? I found out from the three mafia bears that the girl I love isn't who I thought she was and her friend is the same way. Did you even tell Mike the truth?"

He saw the bubble form that she was typing then her response came in.

"I did, before that happened, and he didn't accept it. And I know you are nothing like Mike, meaning you are more likely to accept someone despite their differences. So if you still care for Jamie, you need to get everyone together tomorrow so you can know the whole story."

Johnny knew she had a point before responding back.

"Alright. See ya tomorrow."

And with that, he went to sleep.
