Falls Mountain

Clumsy Gracie

Lucie appecaited the gentle tik of the clock on the wall, the way it stablised the mood of the room and made her feel peaceful amongst the chaos. The hospital waiting room was plain, but that reassured Lucie as well. After Gracie was taken away in the helicopter, Lucie, Benny and Ross made thier way back up the ski lift and skiied towards the nearest shuttle stop. Benny called Candice to meet them at the hospital and Lucie managed to get a hold of her parents to tell them what had happened. Lucie and the others made it to the hospital first, they were closer and the shuttle did not have to wait for the comerical traffic on the main roads. They arrived at the hospital adn were told to wait in the waiting room, they would be told if thier were any updates but that was all the infromation the lady at the front desk could give them. So they had settled down of a long wait, in silence. They had been there for about an hour when Lucie's parents arrived. 

"Lucie!" Lucie sat up from  where she was laying with her head in Candice's lap. "Mum, dad!" 

George went over to the reception counter to speak with the nurse at the front desk. Anna sat down next to Lucie and brushed the hair off the side of her face. Across from them Benny and Ross were asleep in the chair.

"Have you heard anything?" Lucie asked.

"No sweetie we just got here," Anna said grabbing her hand and offering her a small smile. Candice stood to go and get everyone some coffee. George sat down next to Anna and grabbed her hand. Everyone was greatful for the coffees that Candice had retrived as they sat waiting. 

It had been three hours and with every person that walked down the corridoor, everyone turned thier heads. 

"Gracie Regatta?" A doctor called walking down the hallway. Everyone stood.

"Yes, we are her parents," Anna said walking forward and grabbing George's arm.

"Perfect, your daughter is out of her scans and is resting up well, she had a broken leg and mild concussion we want to keep her for a few days to monitor her for any changes but she looking for a perfect recovery, of course with her leg it may take a few months to get fully back to function and we will need to monitor that," The doctor said smiling.

Anna let out a gasp and buried her head into George's shoulder.

"Thank you, Doctor," George nodded.

"Can we see her?" Lucie asked walking over to her parents.

"Of course, come with me."

The doctor lead them down the hallway to a little room.

Gracie was laying still with her head propped up on some pillows and her leg elevated and in a cast. Her cheeks were pink and she looked exhausted. 

"Oh my love," Anna rushed over to her side.

"Hey mum," Gracie smiled weakly.

"You silly girl," George said walking over to her other side and plating a kiss on the top of her head.

Gracie smiled up at him and then turned to Lucie.

"Hey," she whispered. Lucie smiled and walked over to the bed.

"You gave her a scare," George said placing a hand on Lucie's shoulder. 

"I'm sorry Lucie, clumsy Gracie always getting into trouble," Gracie laughed a small laugh. Lucie smiled and felt a teardrop from her eyes.

"I'm just glad you are okay," Lucie said giving Gracie's arm a small squeeze. 

"So much for all that training," Gracie sighed.

"Don't worry about that," Lucie said dismissing the thought. 

The next few hours, whilst Gracie slept, George was on the phone with Scotty assiting witht he replacement team members for the competition. Lucie curled up on the couch next to the bed, her mother looking around the bare room, Lucie could imagine the thoughts spinning around her mother's head about how to liven up the room with wall paper, some new furnititure and some flowers. 

Benny, Ross and Candice had vistied brefily before they went home to rest up as well, it had been a big day for everyone and Lucie was glad to put it all behind them adn focus on helping Gracie get better.
