[TW : MENTION OF BLOOD]
Leanna POV
I'm currently standing outside the shop where I work, carrying an umbrella to shield my figure from rainfall as I closed the shop for the night. My coworkers have gone home because I was charged with the duty of cleaning the store today, and our manager gave me the key to the shop. Because of my action, the rustle of the keys is only heard where I am standing right now. When someone patted me on the shoulder, I let go of the keys in my hand and fell to the ground due to unexpected tap, but I brushed aside it because I turned around to see if someone behind me. I saw a man standing not far from where I was, they also had an umbrella holding to shelter himself.
"Ah... Hi? What can I do for you?" I shifted the umbrella I was carrying to provide proper protection from the rain.
I noticed the person in front of me also adjusting his umbrella, and since the lamppost had already been turned on because it was evening. We were standing at a nearby post light, and that I caught a glimpse of his face. He is a guy.
"Is this cafe already closed?" He pointed the store behind me that I was just about to close.
"Oh. I was about to close it... Do you, however, have anything you'd like to purchase while you're here? I haven't shut the door yet, so I can still open the shop." I said as I waited for him to respond to what I said.
"There's no need! I'll come back the next day. Because it's late, I don't want to disturb you any longer."
"... Are you sure?"
When I saw him nod, I simply returned his gesture and stood there watching him walk away. Before turning around, I took a deep breath. Because of the light striking it, I noticed that the key was gleaming. I stared at it for a few moments before picking up the key that had fallen on the floor earlier to lock the shop's main entrance and leave to go home.
I'm walking home on the walking street; there aren't many vehicles going by because this territory resembles a village because the narrow road is surrounded by farmland. When I immediately shivered from the cold breeze passing by. It's still raining, and the rest of my clothes are soaked since the rain comes straight at me when the wind is strong.
I hugged myself with the arm that wasn't holding the umbrella to keep my body warm. I suddenly coughed as I approached the intersection where I would turn to return home. I'm wheezing nonstop. I want to stop coughing because it hurts my throat but it won't get better. My throat was extremely painful, and I needed to drink more water, so I started running towards the house.
Now I put my shaky hands in my bag to look for the house key. When I thought I'd found it, I grabbed it and tried to open the door despite my trembling hands.
I'd want some water....
I started coughing again, but this time I felt something flow down in my throat as I coughed, so I covered my mouth. When I realized that I was no longer coughing I cleared my throat and removed the hand that had been covering my mouth, but it was sticky, so I looked at it and my eyes widened. I eagerly unlocked the door as soon as I heard the 'click' sound I rushed straight to the kitchen.
I didn't take off my shoes since I was in a hurry to wash my hands in the kitchen. I anxiously turned on the sink faucet and scrubbed my hand to remove the color off. Because of the situation, tears were already streaming down my face. Because I was the only person in the house, sobs and whimpers could only be heard throughout the house.
Remove that from me. I want to get rid of that.
Why is there blood on my hand?
"why do I have this when there is nothing wrong with me?" I cried and squeezed my hand together.
━━━━━━━━━
"I'm sorry, sweetie," the doctor began, "but there is no solution for your illness, and I'm sorry to tell that you will endure this pain." He continued.
"But why?" I wonder. "I've always had a healthy body... How did I get this?"
"I'm not sure, dear," He said, "but do you recall any of your relatives experiencing the same thing?"
"... All I remember is that my lola was having a coughing condition, and that's it."
"I believe you have this condition because it runs in your family, so please take care of yourself. This is my business card. If you need anything, call me."
"..."
"Hey, Ivy, don't give up! Everything will be alright."
"All right, Doctor Jiang, thank you!"
━━━━━━━━━
Doctor Jiang's conversation with me came to mind. I don't expect my hardship will begin right away. So, what am I going to do? Should I contact him to inform him that my condition is deteriorating?
When I saw there was no blood on my palm, I switched off the faucet and poured some water into a glass. Because my throat was so scratchy, I drank the water immediately.
.
I just got out of the shower and changed my clothes, and now I'm in the bedroom, lying on the bed and clutching my smartphone, which has Doctor Jiang's number shown on the screen. I was hesitant to click the call button, but I eventually did, and a rang sound was heard.
Doc. Jiang
Hello?
Me
Good evening Doctor Jiang. It's me Ivy.
Doc. Jiang
Oh. Good evening, Ivy! Did something happened?
Me
Actually, I'd like to state that my illness has worsened.
Doc. Jiang
Right. First, take a rest in your room. Don't move or work the next day. I'll go there tomorrow to see how you're doing. Understand?
Me
Okay doc. Thank you a lot.
Doc. Jiang
Don't worry about it. Rest, okay?
After that, the call ended, so I placed my phone on the small table beside my bed. I just lay there staring at the ceiling for a few minutes before realizing I had closed my eyes and dozed off.
