No one knows what they really want. We're in high school and we definitely don't need to have everything figured out. Being indecisive isn't always a bad thing. If you weren't able to make a firm decision on what you wanted, then maybe it wasn't meant to be. Besides I bet your friends don't have everything figured out, they're just really good at hiding that they're as lost and confused as you are.
"All I've heard today is 'Valentina is so hot' or 'I would be a WNBA wife for her.' I bet those girls can't name one team in the WNBA," Haley mutters as she and Valentina walk into school together.
Valentina chuckles, "Can you name a team?"
"LA Sparks," Haley says, pretending to drop a microphone, "Boom."
"Impressive," Valentina says with a smile, "In return, I will learn some nerdy fact for you."
"Actually," Haley says, "I want a song. Written by you and played by you."
Haley pokes Valentina's stomach and adds emphasis on the word you, making her smile.
"Okay I will play you one song," Valentina tells her, "You promise to be gentle?"
"The gentlest," Haley says as she leans toward Valentina, only to lean back as she remembered that they were still hiding things from Nathan, especially now that she was recovering from his use of steroids.
"Hey Val," Kristen says as she walks up to her, "Did you hear the news?"
                              "What news?" Valentina asks.
"The gym is closed. Basketball is canceled until further notice."
"What? Are they allowed to do that?" Valentina asks.
"Apparently," Kristen says, "The girls were talking about asking Coach Durham what's going on. You in?"
"Sure," Valentina answers as she looks over at Haley, "See you after school?"
"Yeah," Haley tells her with a smile. Valentina gives Haley a wink before following after Kristen over to the gym where not only was the girls' team standing there but the guys' team as well.
She wanders over to her older brother, "What's going on?"
                              "No idea," Lucas says.
Nathan wanders up and she looks over at her younger brother, "How you feeling?"
"Same as always," he answers before reaching out and yanking off the sign on the gym door, "You know what this is about?"
"I have an idea," Valentina says as she looks at Nathan. He meets her gaze and scoffs slightly at the implication from her look.
The gym doors open, and everyone's conversations come to an instant halt as Whitey steps outside.
"Glad to see your vertical son," he says as he sets his eyes on Nathan.
"What's this about?" Nathan asks as he holds up the sign.
"It seems that we've all forgotten why we do this, myself included, so Nicole and I have decided to give you guys some time off to think about why we're really out there."
"Coach Durham's real name is Nicole?" Valentina hears Sophia whisper behind her.
"Till then, no practice," Whitey tells them. He takes the paper from Nathan and tapes it back on the door before giving the players a smile and heading back inside.
Valentina had mixed feelings because she knew why the coaches had decided this. The pressure was too much and maybe they were losing sight of what was important but both teams had undefeated records to protect.
