The weather forecast that Jack and Ennis had been up late watching wide-eyed last night was right: tomorrow would be the first snow of the year.
Ennis, as per usual, had his doubts: "That's what they always say. Snow, snow, snow. Next day's just plain ole' cloudy."
He shook his head and turned over in bed, snuggling the blanket up to his chest.
He thought to himself: "...'is a little colder than usual. Maybe they're right. Who knows."
With one last shake of the head "no", Ennis had dozed off in the chilly room.
Jack lay awake flipping through every possible news and weather channel... and all signs pointed to yes.
He fell asleep with butterflies in his stomach for the next day's weather. He had missed the blizzards he grew up with as a kid, and a little piece of those memories always stayed with him; this year eager to experience it with Ennis.

A "pang-pang-pang-pang-pang" on the window jolted a once sleeping Ennis Del Mar out of his doze.
The commotion was followed by an awful squeaking sound: a fist being dragged around in a circle on the glass, clearing the condensation to make way for a face.
A muffled "Ennis! Ennis! They were right! Come outside!" was barely audible, as a powdery haired, red-nosed, grinning Jack Twist appeared through the glass, jolting his partner awake.
Ennis, half-asleep, lifted himself up and stared into space with squinted eyes for a moment, before flipping over and stubbornly bringing a pillow to his ears to muffle the commotion outside.
In what seemed like an instant, Ennis' eyes were closed peacefully yet again, leading him into a light sleep, only to be startled again with the same "PANG-PANG-PANG-PANG-PANG!", only louder and quicker.
The muffled voice grew louder as Jack now pressed his face in against the glass like a child at a pet shop, adoring a doggie in the window.
Ennis sat up, still groggy, and brought a slow hand to his eyes, rubbing them to wake himself.
Jack Twist's blue eyes were clear as day through the glass. A messily wiped circle, cleared from snowy condensation framed his bright-eyed, rosy face through the window.
"ENNIS! SNOW!!!" More tapping on the glass.
A finger pointed to the blanket of bright white snow that laid on the ground, giving Ennis the answer to his question: "Why's it so freezin' in here?"
The cold had seeped through their home as the flurries piled down the entire night.
Fluffy snowflakes continued to fall as Jack stood in the window, smiling with an expression that easily read: "Well, what are you waiting for?"
Exhausted, Ennis pulled the strength together to lift himself up and veer at the clock that sat on the nightstand table, blaring bright red as ever.
He rolled his eyes, trying to be mad for being woken up from a good dream, but couldn't help but smile, picturing Jack's childish face cheering and whooping through the glass.
Ennis placed an entire snow-day outfit over the longjohns he slept in the night before, complete with a pair of thermal leggings, a thick, white woolen turtleneck, and on top of both, a pair of snow overalls.
He fit his favorite blue wool beanie over his dirty-blond hair, and deemed himself ready to go and brave the freezing outside world, with Jack eager to greet him.
