You walked away from that campfire feeling better about your situation. At least until you fell asleep. Then you were stuck back in Hell while Crowley broke your body apart again. There was no relief from Joshua and you couldn't force your way into Heaven's garden. Whenever you tried you would hit a wall, and nightmare-Crowley would laugh. You woke up in the middle of the night with a scream trying to leave your lungs. Your chest heaved as you tried to breathe and you were drenched in sweat.
A soft knock sounded on the door and Gabe walked in with a concerned look on his face. "Hey, you okay?"
You blinked at him and forced yourself to breathe more calmly. "Yeah, I'm okay." You glanced at your hands. You still had all of your fingers.
Gabe smiled sadly. "I was trying to be polite, I know you're not okay."
You sighed and lowered yourself back onto the bed. "They're just bad dreams."
Gabe sat next to you on the bed and brought his legs up so that he was lounging, his back against the headboard. "So, you'll just fall back asleep, then? Everything's good?"
You frowned slightly and looked up at him. "No. What do archangels know about nightmares, anyway?"
"Not much," he answered sincerely. "Why don't you tell me about them?"
You let out another sigh. I know he won't go away until he thinks I feel better. "Okay. He pulled all of my fingers off. Crowley, I mean."
"I'll just have to keep your fingers safe, then." His hand reached out and wrapped around yours. His hand was warm and his thumb made slow circles on the back of your hand.
You felt heat in your cheeks and you were glad for the darkness. With a small smile you said, "It won't be my fingers next time. It'll be something different."
"Any guesses?"
You shrugged. "My feet?"
He grinned a little awkwardly. "Well, I'm not going to hold your feet."
You laughed and your free hand rubbed your face. Your eyes were growing tired again.
"Anything else I can do to help you fall back asleep?" he asked softly.
Before you thought better of it you answered, "You could play with my hair." More heat filled your face.
Gabe chuckled quietly.
"You don't have to be so smug about it," you told him.
"Alright, alright." You knew without looking at him that he was still smirking.
He took your hand and rested it on his lap so that he could hold it with his other hand. Then you felt his fingers combing through your hair. Your eyes started to close.
"Like this?" he asked you.
"Mhm," you sighed contentedly.

You spent the next day with the Winchesters trying to research and brainstorm what Crowley would use for his 'desired' ingredient. You mostly sat and listened while the two talked through what they thought Crowley might be thinking. Among other endless suggestions, Dean mentioned the demon killing knife.
Gabe and Cas disappeared for most of the day, trying to keep an eye on any suspicious demon activity. You noticed that Dean had been avoiding Cas anyway. It appeared their relationship was still strained. Sam seemed alright with him, though.
That night you went to bed, but couldn't fall asleep. Gabriel was out doing important demon surveillance, and you didn't want to bother him with your nightmares. You also didn't want to rely on someone holding your hand to fall asleep. I'm not a five year old.
