The sun was setting when you knocked on Dale's widow's door. She let the two of you in for an interview and you all took a seat in her living room.
"I read that your husband did a lot of traveling," Sam started.
"He went to all kinds of exotic places for the best ingredients," she explained.
"Right," Sam said. "We've tried his work. It's great."
You nodded with a reassuring smile.
"Um," Sam cleared his throat before going into a more difficult subject. "I hear you're not exactly on the best of terms with Dale's old partners."
She rolled her eyes, "Well, they sold his company right out from under him. ...It's not about money. It's about- It was his baby, you know?" She looked between the two of you for understanding.
"You sound pretty upset about it," you pressed.
"I'm furious," she smiled and laughed to herself a little. "I hate them, but then I think about how Dale was."
"What do you mean?" you leaned forward.
"His friends left him behind, but you know what he said? 'I'm gonna send them a gift that shows I forgive them.'" She tilted her head and furrowed her brows as if still trying to understand her late husband's reasoning.
"Do you have any idea what he sent them?" Sam asked.
She nodded. "A bottle of saki, from one of his trips. In a gorgeous box with writing. He was so careful with it. He wouldn't let me touch it."
Your brows lifted and you glanced at Sam, putting a hand on his arm. As he looked at you, you turned to the woman and asked, "Was it a blue box?"
She nodded.
You nodded with her and turned to Sam. "I saw that box. It was in Baxter's office."
As the two of you walked back to the car after the interview Sam got a text and pulled out his phone.
"It's Dean," he told you. "Says you have to be drunk to see the monster."
You hummed thoughtfully, then said, "That would explain why other people couldn't see it. And confirm that it's somehow tied to the saki they got as a gift. I wonder how they figured that out."
"I'm gonna call him," Sam said, looking at his phone screen, "I think we need to go get that box."
Hours later, in the middle of the night, you were standing outside the brewery with the Winchesters as Sam worked on picking the lock. Garth stood at the corner of the building, acting as your watch.
"How'd you find out you can only see it when you're drunk?" you asked Dean.
"The granddaughter accidentally had some of Mom's drink," he said, "and she was the only one who saw the monster tear open her mom."
"Eeesh," your eyes widened. "Poor girl."
"Seems like she has some good family around her," Dean's head cocked a little to the side, "if we can keep them from getting killed too."
You smiled sadly. "Really putting the pressure on."
"That's not what I-" Dean was interrupted as his brother unlocked the door and swung it open.
"Got it," Sam said. He led the way inside.
You nudged Dean on the way by, saying, "I know, I'm just teasing."
The brewery was completely dark. You caught up to Sam and led the brothers to Baxter's office, which Sam unlocked before you walked in to grab the blue box off its bookshelf.
