Scarlet was embarrassed.
Not only by the guy saying he didn't want to go on another date. But knowing Jack was right all this time.
A couple months before, she mentioned going out with this boy. All the boys never really expected it from her and got protective over the fact their little sister wanted to date. She wasn't worried about them being interested....just their reaction.
And Jack, the one who worried about Scarlet the most, had the exact reaction in her mind.
"Dating? You're too young"
"Why would you wanna date?"
"10?? You're back here for 7!"
"You're. Not. Going. On. A. Date!"
"It's not fair" Scarlet threw her hands following Jack. The two teens have been arguing about it for days now. They walked around the boarding house until they reached he common room "Every guy here has been on a date!"
"Yeah, and I know, but they're older" Jack gave a cheeky smirk and sat down trying to ignore her. Scarlet crossed her arms "You're being sexist!"
"Hey" Race put his hands up "I'm sure Jack is just trying to protect ya"
"I sense double standards" Scarlet muttered and proceeded to say how it was unfair "You dated at my age and so has everyone else!....The guy's nice and he works near the theatre. He's really polite and-"
"Don't care, still no" Jack put his hand up. The newsies now got their attention as Scarlet kept on saying how it was unfair. Crutchie piped up "Well...You can't tell her what to do Jack" Jack gave him a stare as he was suppose to be helping his side of the argument. Jack put his hand to his face as the newsies began saying their opinions.
"It will last a month and you will get your heart broken and blah blah" Jack rolled his eyes "You don't need that at the moment and guys are horrible some times"
"Guys do suck at times" Specs said while reading his book.
"But you let Romeo date every single day" Scarlet pointed at her best friend. Her cheeks slowly turning pink.
Albert then said "Yeah but he's use to rejection" And ruffled Romeo's hair. The boys all laughed and Scarlet scrunched her face. It was no use. She stormed her way upstairs and slammed the door. Scarlet jumped on her bed and pushed the pillows against her face so she could scream.
She began to think she will never get to date anyone.

A couple weeks later however, and the newsies persuading Jack like their life depended on it, Jack agreed to Scarlet's date.
She couldn't believe it and was over the moon with the news.Scarlet thanked every single one of the guys with a take away.
But the day she got ready was such an amazing experience. Romeo surprised her with perfume and Race brought her sweets. Specs did her hair as well for a treat.
"Good luck on your date!"
"No kissing"
"You look lovely"
Jack was at the door as Scarlet got her coat ready. He went through all the questions and precautions before going out. "And get back here at eight. No later!" Jack pointed and then said "One more thing"
