Declyn's throat was raw and burning. His breathing was uneven, and his heart was racing much faster than humanly possible. He and Cara raced through the wealthy district of Glenham, following side alleys to avoid too much attention from passers-byers or guards that patrolled the streets.

He needed to get back to the poor district. To his Mum and little sisters. They needed to flee. Grab the first boat out of the godforsaken City and run to Neodreth. Maybe they could work in the farmlands just East of the capital. Cara was heaving as equally as heavily as Declyn, and while they were running managed to wheeze out, "Are we running through the city square?"

Shit. Delcyn hadn't thought about that. There were no alleys to get past the town square, they'd have to risk running through it.

"We'll just have to run through," he heaved back, his sandpaper tongue stopping him from swallowing.

Cara didn't respond, he couldn't blame her and they continued running. They skidded round a corner of buildings, Reaching the town square, Declyn skidded to a stop at what he saw, and pulled Cara back with him.

Edan stood in front of the willow tree, and he looked furious.
